1966 was a common year starting on Saturday.
- A group of wealthy virologists discuss the mysterious Sonnentreppe flower which, in Ndipaya folklore, grants the consumer great power. Dr. James Marcus hypothesises this to be due to a mutagenic retrovirus, and an expedition begins to find the plant. The expedition is said to consist of Dr. Marcus himself and his protege Dr. Brandon Bailey, Dr. Oswell E. Spencer, Earl Spencer, and Dr. Edward Ashford, 5th Earl Ashford.
- Sunday 4 December
- After many weeks of work in the ruins of the Garden of the Sun, staving off attacks from Ndipaya warriors, the expedition team isolates a retrovirus within the Sonnentreppe flowers as predicted. They name the virus "Progenitor". Once isolated, they immediately head back to Europe with viral cultures and Sonnentreppe seeds to continue further research.
