1966 was a common year starting on Saturday.
August
- A group of wealthy virologists discuss the mysterious Sonnentreppe flower which, in Ndipaya folklore, grants the consumer great power. Dr. James Marcus hypothesises this to be due to a mutagenic retrovirus, and an expedition begins to find the plant. The expedition is said to consist of Dr. Marcus himself and his protege Dr. Brandon Bailey,[1] Dr. Oswell E. Spencer, Earl Spencer, and Dr. Edward Ashford, 5th Earl Ashford.[2]
December
- Sunday 4 December
- After many weeks of work in the ruins of the Garden of the Sun, staving off attacks from Ndipaya warriors, the expedition team isolates a retrovirus within the Sonnentreppe flowers as predicted. They name the virus "Progenitor". Once isolated, they immediately head back to Europe with viral cultures and Sonnentreppe seeds to continue further research.[1][2][3]
