"Leon... Long time no see."
— Ada to Leon, upon meeting in the castle.

Ada Wong (エイダ・ウォン Eida Won?) is the pseudonym of an enigmatic unnamed Asian-American spy of Chinese descent who has gained notoriety in the corporate world for being able to handle serious situations and handle the most difficult requests without guilt. She acted secretly in the background of many biohazard incidents and collected information which became useful to several organisations, while at the same time operating to undermine them. However, Ada follows only her own "true purpose" and has often betrayed the organisations and customers she is affiliated with to achieve it.

Biography

Early life/career

Ada's personal life is a complete mystery. Her ethnicity and nationality are left unconfirmed, and when and where she was born are also unknown. Even her birth name is not believed to be real.[8][excerpt 2] However, it is known that she have a dark past. She received special training as a spy for a Chinese criminal syndicate in the underworld involved in the black market arms trade.

As an independent contractor for the syndicate, Wong worked for many external clients and organisations but often betrayed them as a means to fulfill an unknown "true purpose." One of her known clients was Derek C. Simmons, a high-ranking U.S. government official and leader of the secret organisation The Family. Simmons appreciated her as an excellent spy and imposed many orders on her for his own ideals and ambitions. He harbored a distorted attachment and love for her and thought they were a perfect partnership due to the genius characteristics they both shared.[9]

B.O.W. Underworld Infiltration (1990s)

In the 1990s, Wong's syndicate ordered her to infiltrate the rising Bio Organic Weapon underworld to carry out industrial espionage centred on gathering information on this new type of weapon. By 1998, Wong became involved with a bioweapons developer competing with the Umbrella Corporation. This group, otherwise known as "the organisation", frequently questioned her loyalty due to her refusal to tell them her identity.[10]

By 1998, Wong had successfully infiltrated Umbrella USA on the organisation's behalf. Possibly assigned to Chicago, she became close with Dr. John Clemens, chief researcher at the Arklay Laboratory. Due to this connection, Wong was able to gain information on the Umbrella's research, and it is possible though not definite that she visited the laboratory at one point. Clemens himself was unaware of this security breach and and was fully committed to their relationship, going as far as recording his username and password at the lab as "John" and "Ada".[11] Clemens himself would die following an outbreak of the Epsilon strain t-Virus, which ended with the facility being destroyed.

Raccoon City Destruction Incident (1998)

Ada knows Leon

Ada "knows" Leon.

"If the T-virus did this. What would happen if the G-virus got out?. "
— Ada reflecting the destructive nature of the T-virus and potential threat that the new virus could cause.

In the late Summer, the organisation began a new operation to steal a sample of Golgotha Virus. Wong and another agent were sent into the city to recover this virus, with the mission coordinated by Dr. Albert Wesker, a former Umbrella researcher. Another man, a journalist named Ben Bertolucci, was flagged as having potential information on the virus and the NEST laboratory engineering it. His investigation of the city had drawn the ire of both Dr. Annette Birkin and Police Chief Brian Irons, and he was soon arrested and detained in the Raccoon Police Station's cells as an outbreak of a modified Epsilon strain destroyed the city's infrastructure.

On Tuesday 29 September, Wong made her way into the police station in search of Bertolucci, finding the building to have fallen to the Zombies, with rookie police officer Leon S. Kennedy being the only uninfected survivor left. To protect her mission, Wong used a cover for her mission. In one account, Wong claimed to be merely looking for Clemens, while in another account she claimed to be an FBI agent looking for proof of Umbrella USA's illegal bioweapons project. Whichever the reason, the information she got from Bertolucci was not enough, and he was soon killed by a mutant. Wong chose to continue her search for NEST, working alongside Kennedy, who was looking for a way out of the city.

By the early hours of Wednesday 30 September, Wong had successfully reached NEST via underground transport into the Arklay Mountains. Though it is uncertain what precisely happened at the laboratory, it is known that Wong was injured and mistaken for dead. In one account, she was shot by Dr. Birkin while trying to steal a Golgotha sample recovered by Kennedy and fell down a shaft. In another, she was thrown into a console by T-00, a T-103 Tyrant also sent to recover the virus. Whichever the cast, the facility soon began tearing itself apart with the activation of a self-destruct device, and Wong was forced to escape. On her way, she saved Kennedy from T-00 by throwing an anti-tank launcher. How exactly she escaped from the city is also uncertain, but it would appear she made her way back into the city through the sewers.[12] Though she had no time to find another Golgotha sample, she was successful in escaping with a tissue fragment shed from the virus' engineer, Dr. William Birkin.[13]

Ada escapes from Raccoon City

Ada escapes from Raccoon City.

By the early hours of Thursday 1 October, the injured Wong had finally made it into the middle of Raccoon City. Per her original orders, Wong made her way to the Apple Inn to rendezvous with her liaison. When she got to the room, however, she found that the man had already committed suicide out of despair over the situation. Watching from a webcam, Dr. Wesker expressed disappointment about her failure on the mission, likely having access to the NEST feed as he knew of Kennedy, and was prepared to let her perish. Ultimately, however, her possession of the tissue fragment saved her, and he warned her that the city was soon to be destroyed in a missile attack, and her only escape were to use a hookshot on an Umbrella helicopter. While suspicious of Wesker's motives for saving her, she followed his instructions.[13] Wong fought her way to the highway overpass, but was slowed down by Tyrant R. When the Tyrant was killed, Wong succeeded in making her escape, with the city being destroyed moments later.[14]

After returning from Raccoon City, the mission in the city became a constant assessment for her, making her name a legend among those involved in espionage.[10] Personally, however, the experiences took a far greater toll than she would show. As she recovered from her injuries sustained during her time in the city, she did her best to move on, and tried seeing her new feelings for Kennedy as being part of her Wong "character" than herself.[15] Also finding out that Simmons was responsible for the planning and preparation of the "Sterilization Operation" - the bombing - she realised he was simply too dangerous a man to associate herself with, and she wisely severed all connections from him.[16]

Sacred Snakes (2002)

While both were employed by the Organization, Wong and Wesker would operate separately for some years, with their paths crossing on numerous occasions as both ally and enemy. Among the places their rivalry would take effect was the Amazon Rainforest, where the Organization was attempting to make a presence.[17] The Sacred Snakes, a crime syndicate led by druglord Javier Hidalgo, had been purchasing B.O.W.s from Col. Sergei Vladimir, but were met by increasing costs owing to Umbrella's desperation to make profit in its dying days.[18] Approaching them as a liaison for an unspecified bio-weapons developer, they kept in touch though they preferred to buy through Wesker.[18]

In August, Hidalgo's aide Sergio confronted Wong, and she gave them information proving Umbrella was engaging in creative accounting before insisting they give her information in exchange.[18] Reporting this meeting to Wesker, Hidalgo was warned she was an Umbrella spy trying to sell him the same products.[17] The Sacred Snakes went out in search of her, but she disappeared before they could do so.[18] The operation was nonetheless a success for the Organization, and they became Hidalgo's primary supplier.

Los Iluminados (2004)

"Maybe you forgot, Wesker, I don't always play by your rules. "

In 2004, Wong's loyalty to the Organisation was once more put into question.[10] Having obtained evidence Wesker was engaging in dealings with TRICELL Africa since Umbrella's final collapse in 2003, his senior role posed a threat.[19] With thanks to Wong, the Organisation became aware of a bioweapons R&D project in Spain by Los Iluminados which utilised a parasitic organism to turn human beings into useful puppets. Wesker would instead assign one of his own disciples, Jack Krauser, to the mission to obtain a "Dominant species Plaga" - a parasite that would give orders to the others without taking over the host's mind. When Krauser failed to return in time with a sample of the parasite, the Organisation used this opportunity to their advantage, and pushed Wesker to assign Wong to the mission as well.[10]

Arriving at a village who's populous were taken over by the parasite, Wong's objective was to rendezvous with Dr. Luis Sera, a rogue researcher who was offering a sample of the parasite in exchange for protection. This link-up was delayed when she discovered Kennedy was in the area. Having been recruited by the US government as a spy, he was searching the area for Ashley Graham, daughter of President Graham, who had been abducted by Krauser on behalf of Osmund Saddler, the man in charge of the bio-weapons project. Wong rang the bell to the nearby church, which got the attention of the villagers and directed them away from him.

Not long after her arrival, Wong was contacted by Wesker, who had information Sera had been captured and was being hidden in a house nearby. Now knowing where to find him, Wong made her way to a derelict part of the village, where she found both Sera and Kennedy being carried out by a group of villagers led by the local Priest, Fr. Bitores Mendez. Following the group, she reached Mendez's house in time to save Kennedy from being killed, but was captured by the villagers in the process and knocked out by a tranquilliser dart. Waking up in the night, Wong found herself laid out on a stone slab, ready to be killed as a ritualistic sacrifice. Able to shake her keepers, Wong made her way back towards the village, where she finally found Sera. He had, however, not had the sample with him when he was captured, and left her empty handed while he retrieved it.

Ada and Leon encounter again each other.

Heading into a nearby castle owned by the Salazar family in pursuit of Sera, Wong ran into Kennedy once more. Finally revealing herself to him, she was met with hostile questions over her ties to Wesker, which she could not answer. Leaving him behind to continue her search, Wong was shocked to receive orders to execute him, Wesker having deemed him a distraction to her and a possible threat. By carefully avoiding being seen by Kennedy, Wong was able to excuse herself for not killing him, and continued her search for Sera. Ultimately, however, she was too late, and Sera was killed by Saddler as he returned with the sample.

Abandoning the assassination order entirely, Wong decided to use Kennedy to complete her mission instead. Meeting him at a port in a speedboat, Wong drove him out across a lake to an island Saddler's bioweapons research was conducted on and where he had taken the sample to. Negotiations were made with the Organisation as to how she would be picked up, and a team began planting explosives around the island to destroy Los Iluminados' research upon the sample's recovery. On her instance, a jetski was also sent down an underwater outflow as an alternative escape route. Soon, Wong rendezvoused with Krauser at a radio communications tower, where they awaited new orders. Deciding to depart, Wong was alone when she was informed by Wesker that Krauser was to kill Kennedy. Moving through the island's industrial district, Wong destroyed a small warship being prepared by Los Iluminados as part of their military before reaching a large empty warehouse where Krauser and Kennedy were enraging in a knife fight. Shot at by Wong, Krauser gave up the fight and left to fight him elsewhere, at the ruins of a fortress used by the Salazar family long ago. Krauser would lose this second fight in spite of having secretly implanted the Dominant species sample he was to recover into his own body.

While exploring the ruined Salazar fortress for herself, Wong ran in to Kennedy once more. Having been implanted with a Recessive species Plaga when he was captured at the village, he was provided medication by Sera to slow down the parasite's growth, but only thought to take when when he found himself trying to choke Wong to death. While Wong insisted they get the parasite out of him, he refused until Graham was rescued. Leaving him behind, Wong ran into Krauser who, alive but wounded, wanted revenge for her shooting at him. The two fought on the modern fortress built by Los Iluminados, where Krauser was finally killed. Continuing in her search for the Dominant species Plaga sample Saddler took from Sera, Wong reached a laboratory where Graham was being kept in isolation until her own Plaga could take over her body. Distracting Saddler, Wong was able to give Kennedy a chance to escape the lab with Graham. Her fight with Saddler put her at a disadvantage, however, due to his mutant body's ability to simply absorb bullets. Soon, she was defeated and knocked unconscious. Tied up, she was taken to a tower under construction and hung from a rope around her waist as bait. When she was rescued by Kennedy, Saddler's parasite grew to massive proportions and began fighting him. Fighting Saddler's militia on the tower, Wong found a rocket launcher and threw it to Kennedy, which succeeded in killing Saddler once and fore all.

Ada says goodbye to Leon before escaping

Ada "says goodbye" to Leon after stealing the dominant species Plaga sample before escaping from the Los Illuminados island.

With the sample now in Kennedy's possession, Wong made her move and put a gun to his head, forcing him to hand it over. With the sample secured, Wong jumped off a nearby cliff and into a helicopter waiting to pick her up. To give him a chance to survive, she threw him the keys to her jetski as a timer for the explosives was set. On the voyage back, Wong kept the Dominant species sample carefully in her possession, and instead planted a newly-recovered sample of a Recessive species Plaga in a case to be given to Wesker. While this rouse worked for a time to deny Wesker important bioweapons research he would have given to Tricell, Wesker would later return to the island and clone another from the one found in what remained of Krauser's corpse.

The Death of Wesker (2009)

In 2009, another piece in Wong's "true purpose" was moved when Wesker attempted to take control of the world with the use of a new virus. Through of the B.O.W. underworld, she heard news of his death in Africa during a confrontation with the BSAA.

Feeling her heart felt slightly empty due to such a powerful existence suddenly vanishing, Ada reflected that the time she spent partnered with him was instrumental to accomplishing her "true purpose" and that his death would repaint the image of various forces on both sides in the world of biological weapons. With Umbrella, Wesker, TRICELL and the rival company gone; Wong began set her sights on investigating The Family.[20]

Eastern Slav Civil War (2011)

File:Ada Wong Damnation.jpg

"I've been sent here by the BSAA. My name is Ada Wong."
— Ada when introducing herself Svetlana Belikova and the Government officials.

In 2011, Wong was hired to infiltrate the civil war-torn Eastern Slav Republic to steal a sample of a synthetic Plaga species and destroy the facility housing it. This species was developed by scientists employed by Svetlana Belikova, the country's first female President. This species enabled the control of certain B.O.W. models in its egg stage, but caused the host to become a Ganado when matured. For this reason, Wong deemed it a defective product. She meticulously planned to orchestrate events in a way that would lead her straight to her objective.

Leon and Ada reunion again Damnation

Leon and Ada meet once again.

Wong first planted the corpse of a Licker β in a warehouse, where it was spotted by the American government via surveillance camera and used as proof of B.O.W. use in the conflict. She knew this would result in Leon being sent to investigate, who she could once again manipulate to aid in her own objective. Wong then infiltrated the republic's government posing as a BSAA observer and provided President Belikova and her Chiefs-of-Staff with information regarding the rebels' use of B.O.W.s. Following the meeting Ada met up with Leon and warned him of the government's plan to bomb the city in the morning.

The next day, in a second meeting with President Belikova, she was accused of being a Russian spy, having been tracked following the discovery of her forged BSAA membership. The two began fighting in hand-to-hand combat following Ada's refusal to answer to the President's questions. Knocked unconscious, she was tied up with a rope in Belikova's underground facility to prevent further interference, though broke through with a knife. Ada found Leon again in a storage room for modified Plaga samples, where it became clear Belikova was selling bio-weaponry to the rebels to legitimize more aggressive strikes.

Snapshot - 17

Ada and "Her contact" discussing the plaga sample.

Ada made her escape from the facility when Belikova's forces arrived, avoiding a deadly confrontation between the President's forces and Lickers controlled by the rebel leader, Alexander Kozachenko and only helping Leon by operating an elevator control. After having stolen a Dominant Plaga sample in the infiltration, she offered the sample for sale to a hidden buyer, that through his own personal connections, discreetly removed an international warrant for her arrest. Unknown to her at the time, the buyer was Simmons, kept hidden from her by texting her via a keyboard.[21]

Overall, Wong's participation in the Eastern Slavic Republic civil war has been poorly documented, given that her name only appeared in a CIA report on the events. As BSAA denied that she was a member, the only people who learned of her involvement were Kennedy and the CIA.[22]

Familiar Face

AdaWong

"If she wants a game, she'll get one. With the real Ada Wong."
— Ada to herself after speaking with Carla via communicator cube.

In 2013, Ada was contacted by Carla Radames, under the guise of her old partner, Derek C. Simmons. On June 27, she arrived at a massive submarine in the northern Atlantic Ocean. Ada was informed there is some information on board that will interest her. The submarine base was set to read and respond to Ada's fingerprints and voice recognition. Contacting her again as Simmons, Carla asked Ada whether or not she has found anything interesting and mocked that Ada has not figured it out that tomorrow the U.S. will suffer the bioterrorist attack, followed by China, and then all major cities around the world will suffer the same fate.

Reunion with Leon

Ada with Leon and Helena during Tall Oaks outbreak

Ada reunites with Leon and Helena during the Tall Oaks outbreak.

Arriving at the Tall Oaks Cathedral, Ada made her way into the underground caverns, where she found Leon, Helena and Deborah Harper, who was awakening from her cocoon state. Ada fired an arrow at Deborah and revealed herself to Leon and Helena, commenting that Leon looked like he had seen a ghost. As the caverns began to collapse, Deborah awakened and stabbed the floor with her appendages. While the three were making their way out of the caverns, Ada gave Leon a ring of Simmons, which she had found earlier, and told him that it would make sense later. Deborah soon caught up with the three and they fought her, but when she was defeated, she stabbed the ground again and caused them to fall further into the caverns. Ada and Helena met up with Leon on a mine cart and proceeded to get out of the caverns. But Deborah caught up with them and they fought her one more time. After the cart reached the end of the rail. Ada and Leon landed on a platform above Helena and Deborah. They shoot the mutated girl, who falls to the edge, and they watched as Helena let go of her sister's hand, causing Deborah to fall to her death.

Ada learns about Carla

Ada discovers that Carla Radames was impersonating Simmons.

After Helena confessed that she assisted Simmons in attacking the president, Ada commented that it sounded just like the man she knew. She warned Leon and Helena that they were up against the real people who run the U.S. As Carla contacted her again, Ada left the pair and was instructed to find the laboratory. Reaching it, Ada saw the video depicting the "birth" of her doppelgänger, and she realized why Leon is confused. Seeing Simmons' ring at the end of the tape, Ada figured out that it was not Simmons at all that contacted her, but Carla. As the woman called her again, Ada immediately revealed that she knew it was Carla who was talking to her, arguing that what denounced her was her intention to destroy the world and reveal her plans, something that Simmons and The Family would never do. Amused, Carla simply replied that the world will end up blaming the real Ada Wong before finally cutting off contact with her. Feeling that Carla wanted to play a game, Ada decided to play as well to get on top. She then called Simmons and informed him that the doppelgänger he had created was attempting to destroy the world. Ada then left a bomb in Simmons' laboratory, which destroyed everything.

Carla's demise

Later in Lanshiang, Ada found that the BSAA was pursuing Carla to the harbor, where her freighter was located. Following her doppelgänger, Ada found Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin being attacked by Ubistvo, who she herself had fought earlier. Deciding to repay what their parents have given her, Ada worked in the shadows in helping them defeat the B.O.W. As she reached Carla's freighter, Ada snuck on board, avoiding pursuit from Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans, who were mistaking her for the "Ada" they were really after.

Ada eliminates Carla Radames

Ada eliminates Carla Radames after her mutation.

Reaching an office, Ada found a file regarding Carla before she was transformed to her doppelgänger. When she heard the sound of a helicopter, she came rushing outside and saw Carla fall to her death below. When she confronted Carla, she stated that it was Carla's hatred for Simmons that drove her to tear down what he created. And if only Carla sought vengeance against Simmons alone, she would have helped her doppelgänger. Suddenly, Ada was shocked when Carla dropped a C-Virus container and began to mutate into a white slime. Before Carla was able to attack her, Ada tried to escape by closing a metal door in front of her, but throughout the ship, the doppelgänger continued to pursue the original while transforming the walls into white slime. Ada finally defeated Carla by shooting a leak of nitrogen gas that froze and shattered her body. While escaping the freighter with a helicopter, Ada spotted Chris and Piers leaving on a jet, saying that she'll leave it to them to clean up Carla's mess.

Ada Leon Helena deal with the mutant Simmons

Ada helps Leon and Helena deal with Simmons.

While flying to the Quad Tower, Ada saw the chaos within the streets and commented that Carla wasn't kidding with bringing hell on earth. She then encountered Leon and Helena and helped them escape a horde of zombies. After destroying several helicopters operated by J'avo, Ada finally made it to the tower, where she found Leon and Helena again, this time confronting Simmons. Simmons became furious with Ada for what she did to him, even though Carla was actually responsible for his mutation. He mutated into a form comparable to a Theropod, but was defeated by Ada, Leon and Helena. Beckoning Leon to follow her to the roof, Ada flew to the top.

After landing, she left her makeup compact, which had a data chip about Simmons' crimes, and a rocket launcher for Leon to use against Simmons later. Making her way down, Ada saw Leon and Helena being pursued by Simmons. She assisted them by distracting the mutated man. Simmons then pursued Ada across the rooftops and managed to knock her unconscious, forcing Leon to confront him. Simmons gained the upper hand and tried to throw Leon off the building, gloating over his victory but was stopped by Ada who stabbed him and threw him off the roof.

New Purpose

RE6 Ada 2

After destroying Carla's laboratory, Ada leaves to do a new job.

"We're beyond sympathy at this point, we're beyond humanity."
— Ada Wong

After taking care of Simmons and parting ways with Leon, Ada went on to Carla's lab and witnessed a video footage of Carla's "greatest work yet". However, before Carla's creation could fully hatch from its cocoon, Ada, no longer being able to sympathize with Carla anymore and disgusted at her actions, destroyed the creature and the entire lab in a fit of rage by unloading some magazines on the chemicals and equipment, setting the lab ablaze. Only a few moments later Ada received a phone call about a job, which she happily accepted.
