(Welcome to Raccoon City continuity)
"The faster we find them, the faster we can get out the fuck out of here." — Wesker to the S.T.A.R.S Alpha team upon entering the Spencer Mansion. |
Albert Wesker was a police officer attached to the Raccoon Police Department and the leader of the S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team. He was caught up in the 1998 Raccoon City Destruction Incident.[1]
Biography[]
Wesker grew up in Raccoon City, where he became close friends with fellow officers Jill Valentine, Richard Aiken, Chris Redfield, and Brad Vickers. At some point, he became an officer at the Raccoon Police Department and was recruited as the head of the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S.), an elite tactical law enforcement division where he was attached to the designated Alpha unit.
By 1998, Wesker had grown tired of his "small town dead-end" life, and was contacted by a mysterious woman working for an unknown rival organization, which tasked him with infiltrating the facilities of the Umbrella Corporation (a pharmaceutical giant that had been in the process of relocating out of the city) and stealing whatever dirty secrets remained of their research there in exchange for a substantial sum of money. Wesker agreed and waited months for further orders.
On the night of the 30th, Wesker was out with Valentine and Aiken at Emmy's Diner prior to being tasked with working the graveyard shift at the station, they messed around with a rookie officer who had passed out at the counter and crossed paths with Bravo Team members Dooley and Marini, who had been called to investigate a chewed-up body found near the old Spencer Estate.
At midnight, following the sudden blaring of sirens around Raccoon City, Wesker and the rest of the S.T.A.R.S. unit were called into an meeting by Chief Irons shortly following the loss of communication with Bravo team. It was at this point that Wesker received messages on his beeper instructing that his plans were to begin tonight and to check his locker, after which he was mocked by Irons for not paying attention. As the team prepared to leave, Wesker opened his locker to find a portable computer device that informed him that Raccoon City would be destroyed at 6 AM.
Flying into the Arklay Mountains, the group discovered Bravo's demolished vehicle and landed to investigate, finding it empty, Wesker was startled as an infected crow landed Aiken noticed a trail of blood leading into the forest, the group followed it, stumbling across the Spencer Mansion. Upon entering the building, Wesker ordered the unit to split up and investigate the mansion further, to his chagrin, Redfield insisted the group stay in pairs. With Redfield & Aiken covering the mansion's second floor and Wesker and Valentine exploring the first.
Jill followed Wesker through several rooms and corridors, questioning Wesker's use of the portable computer, which displayed a map of the mansion's east wing with a notable waypoint. The pair soon entered a library with a grand piano that, upon playing of the Moonlight Sonata, revealed a secret passage connecting to Umbrella's secret underground laboratory, NEST.
At that moment, Vickers' helicopter crashed into the library, with Jill saving Wesker's life by pushing him out of the way. After emerging from the rubble, Wesker caught Jill's suspicion. She confronted him and he admitted that he had come to the mansion with ulterior motives of retrieving the research for money, which he intended to use to start a new life elsewhere. Jill lashed out at Wesker for betraying his friends and insisted that they return to the front hall and attempt to find Chris and Richard to inform them of Brad's death, but Wesker refused. As the two came face-to-face with their first zombie which emerged from the rubble. Wesker disposed of the creature, much to Jill's horror and used the shock of the moment to flee down the tunnel, as Jill called out to him.
Wandering through the long maze of corridors under the mansion, Wesker wandered upon William Birkin's lab, where he found Birkin attempting to pack up the vials of G-Virus in order to prevent them from falling into the hands of Umbrella or a potential third party. Wesker immediately demanded the samples, but Birkin refused to hand over his life's work. Wesker raised his gun, informing him there was no other alternative and Birkin, in-return, complied, pleading to Wesker not to shoot him in front of his family. Unfortunately, sealing up the vials, Birkin took notice of his own firearm and took the opportunity to shoot Wesker in the shoulder, before being shot several times in the chest himself.
Wesker retreated in pain, as a dying Birkin called out for his wife, Annette, to grab the vials. Wesker then emerged once more, desperately demanding the vials and begging her not to do anything stupid, only for her to attempt to shoot Wesker, leading him to quickly dispose of her with a headshot. Wesker reeled in shock, having killed another person, let alone both of the kid's parents, Wesker toke notice of her sudden disappearance and called out to her frantically. As Birkin groaned, still alive, Wesker immediately grabbed his collar, yelling at him that "it didn't have to be like this" only for Birkin to chortle and grin in response, revealing he had injected himself with the virus. Wesker, exclaiming that the situation was "fucked", shot Birkin another several times. Attempting to leave, Wesker is startled by the sound of glass being stepped on and turns around to see Birkin's daughter, Sherry, now aiming the gun at him. He raises his gun, only to be fatally-wounded from a shot from behind, turning around to see he'd been shot by Jill.
Collapsing to the floor, Wesker apologized to her, recognizing that he "fucked up", he warned Jill of Umbrella's plan to destroy the facility and all of Raccoon, informing her that there was a train that connected to the NEST facility that would take them to a town on the other side of the Arklay Mountains. In his dying breaths, Wesker apologizes to Chris and tells Sherry that he wouldn't have pulled the trigger.
Nevertheless, Wesker later awoke in a body bag in a strange room. Hyperventilating as his body painfully contorted and contracted, he collapsed onto the floor and crawled into the corner of the room scared, confused, and unable to see. Wesker was then approached by the mysterious woman who served as his contact. Wesker questions the woman as he exclaimed that he thought he was dead and can't see. The woman explains that temporary blindness is just one of the side-effects of reanimation and that there will be more, she hands him a pair of sunglasses that he puts on, collecting his breath and calming down. He asks what her name is and she responds: Ada Wong. Wesker asks what they want from him, and Ada smirks.
