(2022 TV series)
Angel Herman Rubio was a former investigative reporter turned freelance journalist.
Biography[]
Angel lived at home in Tijuana with his father, who was dismayed with Angel's lack of employment and view his investigation into Umbrella as "crazy".[1]
In September 2022, Angel had been investigating numerous health and safety violations that the Umbrella Corporation had committed over the years and managed to document, in detail, the events surrounding a T-Virus outbreak in his hometown of Tijuana. In order to cover up the incident, Umbrella had Angel fired from his job at The Baja Post when he attempted to publish the story.[2]
Afterwards, Angel set up a blog exposing the incident as well as hoping to learn any more about Umbrella's experiments and past accidents, Rubio also provided a list of symptoms of T-Virus infection. His site was blocked on Umbrella's servers, but Jade Wesker, concerned for her now-infected sister, nevertheless managed to bypass the network's firewall and contact Angel, informing him of a similar incident in New Raccoon City.[2]
After interviewing Susana Franco, the wife of a deceased Umbrella worker, Angel was given access to a USB drive containing a singular document pertaining to the cover-up of a prior incident in Raccoon City as orchestrated by Umbrella and the United States government.
Shortly after, Angel learned of Susana's sudden disappearance and set course to South Africa, attempting to infiltrate the local community of New Raccoon, he was immediately noticed and tracked by Umbrella Security Service. Angel attempted to find Jade to learn more about the bite victim and expose umbrella, he tracked her to a local block party after a picture of Billie was uploaded onto Umbrella's social networking app.[1]
Angel approached the hesitant Jade and attempted to warn both her and Billie of the dangers of Umbrella, as well as the truth behind Albert Wesker, Raccoon City and their existence. Jade and Billie fled in denial of his claims and Angel was swiftly taken into custody by Umbrella, where he was interrogated and tortured by Roth.[3]
At Evelyn Marcus' request, Wesker was brought in to further torture and coax information out of Angel. Wesker secretly offered Angel a quick and peaceful death so long as he hid his daughters' involvement. Angel agreed, asking that Wesker would inform his father of his passing. Wesker then injected Angel with a fatal concentration of the virus-infused medicine Joy, leading to his sudden reanimation when Evelyn attempted to perform an autopsy to determine cause of death. His corpse is eventually mutated into an Tyrant like creature where he is subjected for further study by Evelyn who inquires Bert as the lead scientist in this newly created project. Shortly after the destruction of Umbrella's HQ and Bert's abandonment, the creature breaks free of its containment.[4]

Further notes[]
- In the unfilmed Season 2, Rubio in his "Tyrant" form was to fall back under the control of Umbrella, with Marcus sending him out to kill Billie Wesker. He would have chased her to a nearby zoo and torn an elephant in half to get to her, only for Chris Redfield to rescue her and Jade.[5]
