Prime universe
(Capcom's primary storyline)

The Ants (アリ ari?) were an unnamed mutant species of ant created through the DNA-altering effects of the t-Veronica Virus.[1][2][3][excerpt 1] The species is believed extinct following the destruction of the Antarctic Base in 1998.

History

This species was created in 1983 as part of research by Dr. Alexia Ashford.[4][excerpt 2] They were not destroyed or contained when her research was finished, and flourished in the Antarctic Base in the fifteen years she was kept in cold-sleep. By 1998 they had constructed a towering ant-hill as their hive continued to swell in numbers,[5][excerpt 3] though this was soon after destroyed along with the Antarctic Base.

Biology

These ants, enhanced by the virus, grew to larger than average proportions due to excessive production of growth hormones. These changes also effected their behaviour, making them more aggressive to the point of openly attacking nearby humans. Their jaws also became strong enough to cause pain to passing humans.[4] Unlike other mutants created through various strains of t-Virus, the Ants remained fertile and were able to propagate their species rather than relying on the use of cloning methods.
