An anti-matériel rifle is a high-caliber weapon designed to damage equipment such as light vehicles or even tanks. These weapons fire extremely powerful ammunition, such as the infamous .50 Caliber round.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

The Anti Materiel Rifle is featured in Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City as part of the Power Weapons Pack for those who pre-ordered the game from Gamestop[1] or purchase the special edition of the game. The Anti-Materiel rifle is incredibly powerful, and can kill in two well placed shots in multiplayer, but the Bolt Action fire rate makes it a lot harder to put in that second shot in certain situations. It also has a 5 round magazine and 25 reserve rounds.

It is the only bolt-action rifle in the game that uses a magazine rather than having to reload individual rounds. According to the trailer for the ORC Power Weapon Pack, the rifle fires .50 BMG rounds.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse (Film)

At one point in the film, an Umbrella Sniper uses a Barret M82 with an advanced imaging scope in an attempt to kill Carlos. However, he is thwarted by Alice.

Resident Evil: Afterlife

At the beginning of the film, an Umbrella sniper is using a bolt-action Steyr HS.50 rifle. This is the only bolt-action anti-materiel rifle depicted in the series so far.

Further Notes

  • The rifle in ORC shares many features of the Barrett M82, although based on the only currently available image, the magazine placement and stock of the weapon differ from the real-world M82. It also has features of the Barrett M95.
  • This may be the highest-caliber rifle available to the player in the entire Resident Evil series.
  • The firearm was misspelt "anti-material rifle" in a GameStop article for ORC. It should be noted that "matériel" and "material" are not synonymous, and that the former is an actual weapon type.
