The Assault Shotgun is a weapon found in Resident Evil 6. It can be found by Chris Redfield and Ada Wong. It uses the same Heavy Field brand 12 Gauge Shells that the other shotguns use in the game. It is the only shotgun in the game that fires in a semi-automatic fashion. This means that it does not require the user to pump the forestock in-between shots, enabling them to fire more quickly. It does however, has a low capacity than the standard Shotgun having only 7 shells in the Assault Shotgun.

The Assault Shotgun is, obviously, most effective in close range, where the pellets do not have time to spread out. It deals less damage compared to its pump-action counterpart, and holds one less round. However, it is semi-automatic, which greatly increases its versatility in combat and makes it an effective counter to mid-level threats such as Bloodshots, Whoppers and Napads. When using this weapon, one should always watch their ammunition count. Although being slower than the Hydra, it still shows no mercy to the careless. Even though it is semi-automatic, the character pumps the weapon when reloading.

In The Mercenaries, the Assault Shotgun is one of the 'Power Weapons' for Piers and Sherry in their alternate costumes. Chris in his alternate costume and Carla use the Assault Shotgun in Survivors and Predator as their primary weapon.
