The Axeman[2] is a mutated zombie in Resident Evil Afterlife; the monster is a direct recreation of the The Executioner from Resident Evil 5. The Axeman serves as one of the main antagonists of the movie.

Background

The Axeman first appears in the streets of Los Angeles, dragging its massive axe behind him. Eventually, it arrives at Citadel Correctional Facility compound where Alice and the other survivors have taken refuge. His presence appears to excite the other zombies as they attempt to breakdown the door. Claire and Luther West try and fail to barricade the gate. The Axman breaks down the main gate, allowing hordes of zombies to infiltrate the facility.

Its whereabouts are unknown until the group attempt to use the tunnels created by the "Plaga" undead in the shower block. It kills Kim Yong (splitting him in half) and renders Alice unconscious with one blow with the flat side of its axe. Claire is left to fight the undead on her own, barely dodging its attacks until she outsmarts him; his is eventually killed when Claire runs at him, slides between his legs and shoots him with Alice's shotgun in the neck. He is thought dead for a moment before he begins to stand again. Alice regains consciousness in time to pull Claire out of the path of its axe when he throws it. One final blast to the head with her shotgun kills the Axeman, obliterating its head completely.

Retribution

The Axeman returns in the series 5th movie as part of the New York test scenario. After escaping from the Umbrella command room with Ada, along with Alice, are ambushed by 2 Axemen in this scenario dispatched by the The Red Queen. The second Axeman is portrayed by Kevin Shand. Both Axemen die when they are picking up a taxi-cab in an attempt to kill Alice. Along with Ada they dispatch the pair by shooting the gas tank.

Strength and abilities

The Axeman is faster than he is in the game; he is able to swing his cumbersome weapon much quicker and run after his prey while swinging his axe at the same time. However, he is weaker and though he can withstand small caliber shots from a handgun, he is killed after two shotgun blasts at close range to the head.
