Prologue[]

The BIOHAZARD glossary lists twenty-two key words fans are expected to know to understand the game.

R.P.D.
Shortened from RACCOON POLICE DEPARTMENT.[excerpt 1]
Albert Wesker
Former Captain of S.T.A.R.S., who died at the hands of his own B.O.W.[excerpt 2]
A(Alpha) Team
[excerpt 3]
Umbrella
A pharmceutical company of an international scale based in Europe. Besides developing new drugs, they have also launched viral weaons research, causing a number of biohazards. Umbrella's company motto is "Protecting the Health of the People".[excerpt 4]
Ada & John
John was the T-Virus researcher who set the security system password. To be exact, JOHN is the login name; ADA the password.[excerpt 5]
Chris Redfield
[excerpt 6]
G-Virus
William Birkin succeeded in developing a new generation of bio-virus. The structure of an organism is changed at the cellular level, evolving organisms at phenomenal speed. It has the strength to revive even the dead.[excerpt 7]
G-Vaccine
Commonly referred to as "DEVIL", it is a G-antigen. The embryo is buried into the host organism; if it is still in the early stages, administering the drug can prevent the G-biochemistry. The generation of a vaccine requires large equipment; if the equipment is ready it can be created without an expert.[excerpt 8]
John
A T-Virus researcher dispatched from the Umbrella Chicago branch. He is infected by the T-Virus in an accident at the mansion, leaving a letter that describes the security release method. The former lover of Ada.[excerpt 9]
Jill Valentine
[excerpt 10]
S.T.A.R.S.
[excerpt 11]

Typewriter
T-Virus
The biomonster-producing virus developed by William Birkin. It dramatically impoves the vitality of an infected organism and transforms it into a beserker at the loss of emotion and the sense of pain. Because of its powerful, unstable, and contagious nature, a small leak can lead to a catastrophe.[excerpt 12]
Herb
Native to the Raccoon area and the Arklay Mountains: the green plant contains medicinal ingredients for recovery; blue is an antidote to poison, and red is used to enhance the recovery effect. Multiple theraputic effects are expected to be formulated.[excerpt 13]
Biohazard
The word referring to a biological disaster. Caused by the likes of pathogens and organisms, they mean a crisis situation for human beings and the ecosystem.[excerpt 14]
Barry Burton
[excerpt 15]
P-ϵ gas (Anti-B.O.W. gas)
A green gas reported to weaken B.O.W.s. In follow-ups, prolonged spraying conversely increases the B.O.W. adaptation, and the imparting of toxicity has been confirmed.[excerpt 16]
B.O.W.
A generic term for bio-monsters manufactured by Umbrella. It is a mneumonic simplification for "Bio Organic Weapon", meaning an organic, living weapon. Many monsters originated from this incident, and since the individuals were not intentionally manufactured by Umbrella, they are not to be included in the B.O.W. category.[excerpt 17]
Brad Vickers
A male S.T.A.R.S. team member with a helicopter piloting license. In the Mansion Incident, he supported Chris and Jill in their escape. He was infected with the T-Virus in the viral spill.[excerpt 18]
Mansion Incident
[excerpt 19]
Raccoon City
A small city located in the American Midwest. It was a quiet rural town that was surrounded by the forest; in the wake of the Mansion Incident, an atmosphere of unrest has spread. As Umbrella's chemical factory is a central industry for the city, the citizens don't want to touch the subject of Umbrella.[excerpt 20]
Rebecca Chambers

The Appendix starts with a Q&A section asking various questions about the gameplay and lore, such as "Is Ada Wong a real name?" Eida won wa honmyō??) Another question asks about Claire's university lifestyle, where it is revealed she has the engineering skills to customise the two bikes she owns.

Question 34 asks what the differences were between Resident Evil 2 and "1.5". It specifically refers to the radical change in design for the Raccoon Police Station, going from the modern, office block-like building to its release appearance. It is confirmed here that there was no Zapping system in the earlier game. In regards to its cancellation, Hideki Kamiya's dislike for it is explained as it not being worth the announcer proudly shouting "BIOHAZARD 2", and that it might have sold as a reasonable game if unrelated to the franchise.[excerpt 22]

  22. Excerpt from page 281:
