BIOHAZARD THE REAL (バイオハザード・ザ・リアル Baiohazādo za Riaru) was a screampark attraction at Universal Studios Japan, open from July to October 2013 as part of their annual Halloween Horror Nights event. It was located within the Palace Theater in a the New York section of the park.
Background[]
Capcom had previously collaborated with Universal Studios Japan with their 2012 Halloween Horror Nights event, in which the Terminator 2-3:D attraction and surrounding area was refurbished as "Umbrella Corporation ~ t-Virus Escape ~". As reception was positive, they collaborated again, this time using the Palace Hotel.[1] Capcom closely supervised the project, with Yoshiaki Hirabayashi handling planning. For the designs of the city and creatures, the workshop crew consulted the game artists themselves, and Japanese special effects designer Shinichi Wakasa crafted a life-size Tyrant replica.[1] USJ contractor Adam Milicevic was art and design director for the attraction and provided the concept art designs were based on.[2] Capcom held a press tour on 18 July, a day before the official opening; the winner of a CLUB96 competition was also within the group. For the event, the press were captured outside the hotel by USS operators.[1]

Main attraction[]
The Real was set within a replica of Raccoon City in the late stages of the Raccoon City Destruction Incident. It is a small section of the city as explored in Resident Evil 2. In the event's story, contestants are Raccoon City residents who have been conscripted by the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service to aid in their clean-up mission. They are infected and will eventually become Zombies, which was determined by a device strapped to their arm which determined the rate of progression of the disease akin to the virus gauge in Resident Evil Outbreak.[1] Each player was provided with a gun by the UBCS with only 30 rounds of ammunition, meaning they would have to avoid the Zombies in the event rather than defeat them. The objective was to travel from one end of the city to the other before turning into a Zombie, starting from the UBCS-controlled Kendo Gun Shop and headed towards the Raccoon Police Station which is besieged by a T-103 Tyrant.[1]
