The plot of BIOHAZARD THE STAGE revolves around an apparent bioterrorist attack on Philosophy University in Western Australia. The BSAA sends in a team, led by Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans, to contain the outbreak. There they meet Rebecca Chambers, former S.T.A.R.S. medic, now a teacher at the university. Together they meet a young ex-cop named Tyler Howard (タイラー・ハワード) who may have some information regarding the attack. The play sets in 2010, a year after the events of Resident Evil 5 and before Resident Evil Revelations 2

Plot

Act 1

The play begins with a soliloquy by US-STRATCOM agent Tyler Howard (Hiroshi Yazaki), who says he is not dead. He is surrounded by people in white coats, passing by him in the rain while carrying umbrellas colored in the style of the Umbrella logo.

The play moves on to Philosophy University in Philosophy, Western Australia. The date is 12 August 2010, and the time is 15:40. Dr. Rebecca Chambers is teaching a science class, having been there a month as a temporary transfer. The class is distracted from the lecture by Olivia Price, who is more interested in Rebecca's love-life, having recently become the girlfriend of Lucas Butler. The only student paying attention is Mary Grey, who is disappointed at being unable to solve the chemical formula, earning mocker from Laird that her reputed 230 IQ has accomplished nothing. Rebecca explains that that is the point - the formula is presently unsolved by modern scientists, and is being used as a demonstration that there are always unanswered questions. Mary sees it differently, theorizing that a more intelligent civilization would solve it. Rebecca, familiar with the suffering wrought by eugenics, is disturbed by her idea.

After class, Mary seeks solitude on the rooftop, having had a crush on Lucas for some time. When Tyler shows up, Mary seeks his company, sensing something wrong with him. They talk over loneliness and what it means to them. Tyler thinks it is only for miserable people who can't speak out, though Mary thinks it is a force which changes someone's way of living, and says she feels like she isn't really alive, which he also feels. Mary kisses him and hopes to see him on the rooftop again.

Rebecca meets with Bethany, a fellow lecturer at the school. Philosophy is well known for its highly-intelligent students, and Bethany has to study beyond her specialty to keep ahead. Moving on, Bethany expresses concern about a student disappearing from the campus, something which has happened before. Rebecca heads off to meet Ezra Sennett, the university rector. Rebecca wants to talk about Mary, but is talked down by Ezra's secretary and adopted son, Matthew Russel, who feels that this conversation may lead to disruption of her education. Ezra moves on to the topic of the missing students, and warns her the university cannot afford a damage to its reputation, hoping the investigation will be done quietly without causing a panic. Barrington Meyer, a local detective, enters the office, and asks Rebecca about her hobbies, having seen her going to the local fossil and archaeology museum during his investigation, though she defends this as a legitimate curiosity. She leaves the office promising to inform him of any suspicions she has. Barrington receives a bribe from Ezra to continue his investigation without getting the other police involved, and leaves. Matthew is concerned about the bribes, not trusting someone who is clearly corrupt. Nonetheless, Ezra believes he is the sort of man who will forever remain loyal so long as the bribes keep coming, with their only problem being the other policemen.

Rebecca walks past Mary, who apologizes for her outburst in class, saying she has recently been struggling to find her true potential. Asking her lecturer chose her own life, Rebecca agrees, and suggests if she ever find out her raison d'etre she should dedicate herself to it. Dr. Liam Howard approaches Grey later to congratulate her on her paper, "Reset". Rebecca meanwhile is called to attention by Price and Butler, to something happening at the university. Bethany takes the two students and Grey to a nearby AV room while Rebecca co-ordinates the evacuation of the other students. Bethany seals the students in the AV room, but Butler and Grey take note Price isn't with them. Traveling alone through the university halls, Rebecca spots Tyler, who she recognizes by name, but he doesn't stop.

Meanwhile, in the desert, Cpt. Chris Redfield drives in a BSAA Gambit through Western Australia, headed to Philosophy. His passenger, Piers Nivans, is unfamiliar with Rebecca is told she is a former S.T.A.R.S. member. Piers gets a call from the Oceania Branch HQ about the university outbreak, and reports they are closing in on the university. The two arrive at 16:45 the same day, and shoot a Zombie Dog on the way in.

In a flashback to the 1998 Mansion Incident, the young Rebecca, then a medic for the Raccoon City Police Department's S.T.A.R.S. division, finds herself all alone in the Spencer Mansion. Her attempts at contacting her teammates on the radio fail. She ends up in a medical store room on the ground floor's west wing, noticing that all of the medicines are made by Umbrella Pharmaceuticals. As Zombies make their way towards the room, gunshots ring out. Inside walks Chris who, being from a different unit within S.T.A.R.S., Rebecca does not know. Chris' Alpha Team had been sent out a few hours earlier to located and rescue Bravo Team; asking if Rebecca knows where her teammates are, she is unable to help but brings up how Umbrella must have a laboratory nearby. She offers to use her skills to treat injured members, but leaves to help Chris.

The flashback continues to the Arklay Laboratory itself, with music implying she helped him with the piano at the mansion's bar. The two S.T.A.R.S. members converse in the lab about destroying it to finally remove any trace of the virus and the resulting monsters; Chris entrusts her with destroying the lab while he does other things. Rebecca is successful in setting off the bomb, forcing the mansion and its lab to explode. The narration continues, describing how Umbrella Pharmaceuticals' role in the illegal research could not hold up after the explosion and they continued to be in business until 2003, when research data incriminating them mysteriously ended up in the hands of the court presiding over the Raccoon Trials. Found liable for damages over Raccoon City's destruction, the company went bankrupt. With the corporate hierarchy dismantled, former employees began seizing virus samples and B.O.W.s for sale on the black market, forcing other pharmaceutical giants to create the BSAA as a means of combating bioterrorism.

The flashback moves on to 2005 in Minnesota. A bioterrorist incident has taken place in the city of St. Cloud. The BSAA involves itself in the containment alongside police reinforcements sent from nearby Rochester. Tyler Howard, one of the officers, uncovers incriminating information relating to the collapsed Umbrella USA. Confronted by Zombies, he begins shooting them but is unable to kill them. Rebecca arrives and begins shooting alongside him, and explains he must aim for the head. Following the terror incident, the US government recruits Howard into US-STRACOM's Anti-Umbrella Pursuit and Investigation Team as an alternative to assassinating him, as his intimate knowledge of Umbrella's bioweapons research is a liability. He is declared killed in the line of duty to separate himself from his former life. Moving to 2009, Chris has become an SOU leader for the BSAA's North America branch, and is concentrating on training new recruits. Among his best is Nivans, who's sharpshooting skills are top-rated. The flashback ends as shots are fired in the present.

Due to the lack of evacuation orders, the university is now on lockdown with all survivors and uninfected still stranded inside by a BSAA blockade. Security guard Posh Brown is unable to do his duty, separated from the others. Heading inside, Chris and Piers meet Sophie Home, the only BSAA Oceania Branch operator to enter the building itself. Chris takes over the situation, and plans the extermination of all mutants - the students - and then determine the cause of the outbreak. Barrington disagrees, still wanting the incident to be covered up as much as possible, and insists they focus first on evacuating the survivors. Asked what he knows, he confirms there have been missing persons for the past two months, and that he knows Rebecca was formerly in S.T.A.R.S. - and likes fossils. Chris plans out the mission: Sophie and Barrington will go around the east wing of the building to exterminate the students while he, Piers and Rebecca do the same on the west. Both teams will lower fire shutters to stop surviving Zombies repopulating. Rebecca reports that they already checked out the security office but no one is there, Sophie suspecting the guard to be a man she saw running earlier. Sophie asks for more operators, but Chris believes the three of them and Rebecca will do just fine. Not trusting Barrington, Chris confiscates his revolver and has Piers hand him a 909 with laser-sight, not revealing it has no ammunition.

With Barrington and Sophie gone, Rebecca gives Chris a further update on her investigation. She knows Barrington is taking bribes, and that Ezra may be involved in the outbreak. She is also suspicious of Dr. Liam Howard, the molecular biology professor and director of the fossil museum. The three are approached by two Zombie teenagers. Chris and Piers gun them down, to the shock of Rebecca, who is having trouble accepting that they must die. They leave, watched by Tyler from a staircase.

A short scene follows that is a soliloquy by Matthew, who fears he may have to betray Ezra. Ezra talks with Liam over his research, and blames him for the outbreak. Though Liam denies involvement, Ezra tells him Barrington already has his suspicions. Matthew demands to know why Ezra is so obsessed with the student's ability to learn. He tells him not knowing creates anxiety, having himself done badly at school, and started the university to clean that away. Matthew himself was adopted because of his high IQ. Ezra admits he recruited Liam because he could work on a virus to mutate people to become more intelligent, but does not understand why monsters could result from it. Liam tells him why. The university provided him with the equipment, funding, and privacy to perform any kind of research, implying he took advantage of Ezra to perform bio-weapons research.

Olivia Price runs down a corridor on the second floor of the west wing, pursued by Zombies. She starts texting Lucas and Mary for help, before running into the art department's store room to hide. Lucas is still in the AV room with Mary, who wants to know what he didn't like about her to choose Olivia. Lucas doesn't have time for such talk. When they get the texts, Mary wonders why he isn't trying to save Olivia, but the reason becomes clear when Zombified students and Bethany begin banging on the window. Mary decides to go on her own, telling Lucas she will save Olivia. Olivia texts Lucas a second time, telling him she loves him and that she may be dead soon.

On the first floor, Chris; Piers and Rebecca enter the university's fossil museum. Chris mentions he was given orders to investigate the university several weeks ago; Rebecca believes BSAA HQ was disappointed in her slow progress. The three check a restroom adjoining the museum, where they find Brown has hidden in a cubicle as the lights begin to fail. Asked why he wasn't in the security office, Brown explains he was instructed by Professor Howard to clock up the museum. Rebecca suggests they investigate Howard's research lab, prompting Chris to ask Brown to show them the way. A Zombie attacks Brown, biting him on the leg before being shot. He recognizes her as a friendly student called Betty. Brown asks what would happen if he was bitten, though pretends he wasn't. Mary calls Rebecca's phone and tells her that Olivia is unable to get into the AV room due to the fire shutters; Lucas calls out the lie, as he knows Olivia has not arrived yet. Posh has a remote with him that can open the shutters, and presses the button. The Zombies mob the room, but the two escape, with Lucas killing Bethany with an axe. Mary orders the shutters down, locking the Zombies inside. Chris asks Posh to lead himself and Rebecca to the lab while Piers heads out of the museum to look for Home. As they head off, they are followed by Tyler again.

On the east wing, Meyer and Home discuss the differences fighting the infected is from regular combat. Meyer suggests him continuing alone would be better and raises his revolver to her, still unaware it has no bullets. Home takes the revolver off from him, and Meyer insists that the police will deal with the incident, and admits to the bribes to cover up the events. He is attacked by a zombie and Home tries to kill it, discovering it is empty. Piers arrives and kills the Zombie, which gives Meyer an opportunity to run away, which he rejects in favor of fighting Piers. Another Zombie appears, which is killed by Tyler who finally reveals himself to the BSAA. When Tyler insists on Professor Howard's innocence in the outbreak and the BSAA immediately leaves the university, taking Piers and Home's weapons; Meyer assumes Tyler is working with him, and the two leave together. Lucas and Mary run into the two BSAA agents, and ask for help in finding Olivia. Mary does not follow and goes her own way. Mary runs down a corridor with two other students in the direction of Tyler. They are attacked by Zombies and one is bitten and quickly transforms when Tyler saves the two.

Chris' team climb to the fourth floor of the building. Rebecca identifies an exhibit showing the Irish Giant, the remains of a man discovered a century ago in a mine in Ulster, which has been transported recently to Australia to take part in a research project by Professor Howard. The group is confronted by Zombies, which is ended when Brown closes the shutter separating them. Chris investigates the remains more closely, discovering it is covering a secret room. The three head into the room, where they find documents relating to viral research and bioterrorism. Chris and Rebecca recognize much of the data as being from Umbrella. Further searching uncovers a modified t-Virus strain. Asking Rebecca why she suspected Howard, Chris is told about her meeting with his son, Tyler, who she believes to have died in 2005. In a flashback, Tyler is seen handing her a PDA containing data incriminating Umbrella researchers in the outbreak. He is shown to have been angry at the company ever since his father was employed, believing Umbrella to have used him and that he had disappeared in 2003, which he blamed the company for.

Meyer appears in the room and takes Rebecca hostage. He threatens to kill her if the BSAA allows knowledge of the outbreak to reach the public. Leaving with Rebecca, he warns Chris to kill the Zombies quietly and say nothing about the incident. As the two leave, Mary arrives and sets off a ceiling trap. Chris and Brown then find their way into Howard's lab, where they were supposed to go when they find Brown. Tyler arrives in the lab, who Chris recognizes from Rebecca's description. Tyler reveals he is a US government agent with orders to deal with the incident without the BSAA involvement. Chris tries to find common ground with Tyler, suggesting that he is only trying to avoid discovering his father's involvement. Tyler insists that if his father was involved in the incident, it would be Umbrella's fault. Tyler finally backs down to Chris' offer that he search for evidence proving his father's innocence rather than cover-up evidence of guilt. In a flashback, Tyler tries to get in contact with his father after his death is faked, only for his father to accuse him of being a spy impersonating Tyler. Tyler recalls a conversation he had with Mary earlier that day in which she mentioned Professor Howard's intent to "reset" the world.

Piers; Home and Lucas arrive at the lab and confirm Meyer's treachery. While they recap Rebecca's abduction, Brown discovers an ID card owned by Professor Howard. Tyler uses the card to open shutters in the lab, which reveal tubes containing the missing students, who have been transformed into zombies. Olivia is among them, having been abducted recently (offscreen).

Act 2

Chris, Piers, Sophie, and Tyler engage in combat, fighting the missing students. During the fight, Lucas pleas for Sophie not to shoot her. But the zombified Olivia lunges at him, nearly biting him, but Posh pulls her back. Lucas attempts to stop her until two zombies nearby bitten him on the torso. At the same time, Mary appears from above and witnesses Sophie kill Olivia to protect Lucas. She watches Lucas pointlessly begging for her not to leave him. The fight is now over; Lucas carries her corpse and cries, contemplating how he couldn't have saved her. The virus has nearly taken him and, in a last-ditch effort, he pulls out a gun and tries to shoot himself while saying how much love he has for her. His attempt is unsuccessful and Piers instead euthanises him.

The BSAA along with Posh exists the lab, leaving only Tyler and Mary. Tyler grabs the briefcase, and Mary asks him what he would have done if he had become something that wasn't himself. She says that they could have been saved but he argues that no one will be saved by becoming monsters. She thinks that Tyler has betrayed her too like the others. Even though she feels that she and Tyler were similar, now seeing him alive makes her feel that she is alone once more. Mary leaves the room but not without looking at her friends for the last time.

The team finally arrive at Tyler's location and during the fight, Sophie and Posh both get injured but with Rebecca still missing, he urges them to get her but Piers not wanting to leave him so Sophie voluntarily stays behind so the others could go. Tyler wonders how Liam, his father, could do such horrible things but Chris "wakes" him up telling that none of this is his fault. Chris then hands him the briefcase and the three of them go on their way back at the room where Rebecca and Liam were captured. Rebecca wonders why someone like him would get involved in biological weaponry and she also reveals to him that she got the data and other articles related to bioterrorism back at the safe room. He explains that all of this was done so that he could see Tyler again. Liam had lost his wife to an illness shortly after the birth of his son, and raised him all on his own until they ended up out in the streets after their research funding was cut. After that, he began work with Umbrella on their BOW research until he heard about Tyler's death in 2005. Unaware his death was falsified, Liam has decided that he would resurrect him by combining the t-Virus with DNA from the fossil. With the destruction and downfall of Umbrella, he took out his data and went to make a deal with Ezra Sennet. But no matter how hard he tries, he has consistently failed to create a Tyler copy. Now with a blind eye for vengeance, he wants to change the order of this "pitiful" world. Rebecca tells him that Tyler is still alive but Liam, now blinded by grief, denies the possibility. Rebecca unties herself promised him that she will bring him back. While Meyer and Ezra are distracted, she attempts to sneak past but is unsuccessful and is forced to flee from Meyer.

Chris, Piers, and Tyler fought their way against the infected but Tyler, with doubts still on his mind, still believed that his father is still innocent and even though he might have done something wrong, he still believes that there was a reason behind his actions, he wants to seek the truth. Chris then wants Tyler to think that family not just consisting of his father but his entire teammates as well. The trio of them proceed ahead.

Sophie now carries the injured Posh to a safe place, once it was clear he told her of his past saying how he was a strong boy and his desire to be a security guard but now he couldn't fulfill his duty and feels frustrated, Rebecca arrives shortly after demanding him to show his wound, then she prepares some herbs and questions where Chris and the others have gone. Sophie then said that they went to Sennet's Office. After treating Posh's wound, she gives him a First Aid Spray. Rebecca then warns them of Detective Barrington, who is still in pursuit, shortly after this, Posh went to a delirious state and start to spray but to no effect, he then begs Sophie to kill him. And in a moment of hesitation, she grants his request. Deeply hurt by this, she started singing a lullaby to him. Meyer then appears holding the girls at gunpoint, surprised to see Sophie make it this far, he then tries to negotiate the girls, try to make a cover-up stories about a murderer who killed all of the students and frames on Matthew the Secretary but they denied the offer which prompts Meyer to draw his gun out but not before getting bitten by the still zombified Posh. He then chases after Rebecca, attempting to disarm her but failed, the officer then turned within minutes. Sophie then puts a bullet between his eyes, saving Rebecca, having justice delivered. They then thanked Posh before putting him out of his misery.

Back at the headmaster's office, it is revealed that Matthew committed suicide by hanging and Ezra tying to his chair, now drowning in sorrow and how he was deceived, his desire only wanted to protect the school. In a flashback, it's revealed that his parents got killed by the Italian soldiers right in front of him, he was then taken to labor work and made into an orphan at the age of 6, his job was to clean up the bodies at the tent. Sometime after this, he created the university, he then meets a young boy in the orphanage, that boy was Matthew. The boy back then was eager to learn and to an extension that Ezra even jealous of him for being intellectually smart, he wanted to leave him for the future and the ideal. "But the ideal was wild," Liam said, he requested the research to enhance human intelligence by using the viruses. Just as he was about to kill him, Chris and his team storms in holding them at gunpoint, Tyler then confronts his father and revealed what's in the case. Inside the case was the modified T-Virus strain taken from the DNA sample of The Irish Giant.

Rebecca and Sophie arrive at the scene with Tyler breaking down in tears. He then noticed the notes and picks them up, the notes revealed that if he is alive right now, he will need to kill him and Mary Gray. Shortly after, Mary arrived at the scene and holds Rebecca at gunpoint and berating how she arrogantly shows her chemical formulation. Mary revealed how her father, an Umbrella Researcher, who thought about putting the T-Virus in her after she has an incurable blood disease, he then made professor Howard, an expert on DNA fossil regeneration research, to diagnose her. He then injected her a dozen dose of the T-Virus and found out how her body was capable of bonding the virus, the professor kept her protected even after the loss of her parents through Umbrella's fall. After Liam found out Tyler's death, he thought Mary as his daughter and did everything she asked him for and so she thinks that Liam Howard is her father. Mary then incapacitates Tyler and took the notes away, Chris attempts to restrain her but is unsuccessful due to her fast nature, she continues saying how humans are so stupid and selfish, she even challenges herself saving them like she did with Olivia and Lucas and revealed how she stops using Matthew and Detective Barrington. Filled with delusions, she even thinks of herself as a god but Chris retaliates saying that how she thinks herself as perfect to the point she doesn't realize her own mistakes that she is just alone and scared and wanted to take her mind off of those emotions, her laugh steadily shifted to crying making it safe for Chris to take her gun away but Mary surprisingly attacks Chris and the three men engage her in combat but to their surprise, she holds against her own and evades all of their attacks until Rebecca pulls a gun on Mary, but not wanting to realize how her student becomes insane, she is unable to pull the trigger. Mary takes off and the BSAA pursuit after her except for Rebecca.

The team arrive at the rooftop, attempting to reach out to Mary of how she was able to hide her bonding ability and lived peacefully with the students. In a flashback, Mary attempted to confess her feelings to Lucas but was to late, as Lucas chose Olivia over her. She asks them if she can still start over, Tyler responds that they can still start over and reminds her how she isn't alone, she thanks them only to say that she will now reset it. They then witness Mary mutated into a monster, Chris urges all his teammates to leave but they refuse to leave, saying how he should stop trying to be a hero. Chris, Piers, Tyler, and Sophie all try to shoot it but to no effect until Rebecca comes in with an RPG and hands it to Chris. He then finally kills the creature that was once an innocent young girl.

In the aftermath, Chris thank Tyler and hands him his father's notes, Tyler prepares to departure his way until Chris mentions how he lost his car keys. With determination looks in their eyes, Tyler affirms that they still have a lot to do. The BSAA team left the scene but not without Sophie gives her phone number to Piers, Sophie bids farewell and goes on her way, this marks the end to the Australian incident.

In a post-credit scene, Ezra can be seen running and holding the briefcase until he notices an umbrella logo along with Mary's detached arm. He then cries and hugs it, begging for forgiveness for what he makes her into while reassuring that she wasn't alone anymore and together they can make a new world. The briefcase then suddenly alerts and each sound is more quickly than the first, leaving Ezra's fates unknown.
