The Battle Game is a mini-game featured in Resident Evil CODE:Veronica.
Description[]
Upon completing the main game in CODE:Veronica, a blank screen displaying the text "Battle Game!!" will be shown after the final results screen. The mini-game can then be selected from the main menu. In the Japanese Dreamcast "BIOHAZARD CODE:Veronica Kanzenban" version, the Battle Game in unlocked by default.
The player is given 5 different characters to choose from as they're taken through an unrelated series of rooms and timed on how long it takes them to defeat the B.O.W.s within. Each character has a different set of items to work with, adding unique difficulty levels to each chosen character. Each character is given unlimited ammunition for their weapons.
The mini-game plays much more similar to the Battle Game in Resident Evil and the "Showdown" matches in Resident Evil Outbreak File #2, rather than other battle mini-games in the series, such as The Mercenaries or Extreme Battle.

Guide[]
The game is played on one set series of rooms with one set pattern of enemies however, each character fights their own specific boss at the end. Every boss fought except for the Tyrant T-078 is the same room they were fought as in the main game.
In the 13th room, there is a slot machine in which the player can get a random item. It will either be D.I.J.'s Diary or a specific item for that character. Players can only enter this room if they interact with the door on the right side in the room before.

Results[]
Upon completing the game, the player gets a specific results screen for the character they picked and a rank of A, B, C, D or E based on the time it took to complete it. The Japanese versions include an S rank that goes above A.
The player won't get a rank if they used the Linear Launcher.
Character | Clear time required for A rank |
---|---|
Claire | 6':09'':99 or less |
Another Claire | 7':59'':99 or less |
Chris | 6':29'':99 or less |
Steve | 9':59'':99 or less |
Wesker | 59':59'':99 or less |
Unlockable content[]
The Linear Launcher can be unlocked for the minigame by completing it with every character and getting an A rank. This is also the requirement for the "Battle Master" award in the HD remaster and PS4 versions of the game, obtaining an A rank for each character and performing all special animations with them will also give an award on the PS4 version.
Some versions may have the Linear Launcher unlocked by default, such as the Japanese Dreamcast "BIOHAZARD CODE:Veronica Kanzenban" version.
PAL conversion problem[]
In order to get the A rank in Battle Game the player needs to complete each character's mission within a specific time limit. As PAL region TVs run at a frequency of 50Hz, games in these regions run 20% slower than games made for NTSC regions which run at 60Hz. To get around this, publishers typically re-optimise their games to avoid side-effects. CODE:Veronica however, was not re-optimised and as a result characters move 20% slower while the timer functions normally. As a result, it is considerably more difficult to clear the Chris and Another Claire characters with an A rank.
This problem is noted to exist in the PlayStation 4 version, which is a port of the PlayStation 2 game with minor modifications. The PAL problems are experienced by anyone downloading the game from the European and Australian stores.
Further notes[]
- On the Sega Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and GameCube versions of the game, "ID Number" was spelled incorrectly as "ID Nunmber". This was corrected in the Japanese Dreamcast BIOHAZARD CODE:Veronica Kanzenban and global HD Remaster versions of the game.
