Biohazard 4 Trial Edition (Biohazard 4 Trial Edition,バイオハザード4体験版?, Baiohazādo 4 taikenban) is the official trial edition for Resident Evil 4 in Japan. It was released in Japan September 2004. It could be purchased as part of the biohazard DOUBLE FEATURE or an extra in a copy of Famitsu. Although it came out before Resident Evil 4 Preview Disc, the US equivalent, it is from a much later build of the game. The game comes in "Normal" and "Hard" mode, and has a "Movie" option that plays both the E3 2004 trailer as well as another trailer.
Trial Edition is a short playthrough of the game, from the scene where the car pulls up outside the house to the cutscene where Leon's battle in the village centre is interrupted by the church bell. In this build of the game, the Knife (ナイフ,naifu?) exists within the player's inventory screen as a weapon which must be equipped. The map is different from the final game slightly. One major difference in the trial edition is that the village centre lacks the bonfire, which in the final game has the body of a cop impaled to a stake.
