Black Mobies are whales which have mutated from exposure to an ancient virus. Though mutated by the virus, they developed antibodies to fight off infection, allowing them to preserve their higher reasoning. This attribute was discovered by the crew of the USS Wyoming when the Black Mobies ceased attacking and broke off when it stopped firing torpedoes.[1]
