The world has lost one of its great horror icons today.  Filmmaker George A. Romero died of lung cancer at the age of 77.  His films, beginning with Night of the Living Dead in 1968, launched the modern zombie genre, without which the Resident Evil series could not exist in a recognizable form.
Romero continued to make groundbreaking zombie films such as Dawn of the Dead and Day of the Dead, and he continued to work in film until his death.  He was working on a new film, George A. Romero Presents: Road of the Dead, of which he is credited as co-writer.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the Romero family and to the friends he left behind.
