The body part treasure hunt (tentative) was a promotional event for Resident Evil 5. It took place on 11 March 2009, shortly before Resident Evil 5's release, and was handled by Monument PR, who envisioned a treasure hunt where participants collect realistic body parts from the streets of London.

Details[]

Participants for the event were required to sign-up on a dedicated Capcom page, and on 10 March they received an email from residentevil5@capcomeuro.com giving a series of clues as to the locations of the body parts in the general area around Trafalgar Square. Participants were expected to recover as many parts as possible - each with their own "points" - and return them to Westminster Bridge no later than 11am. The participant with the most points was to win a vacation for two in Africa.[1]

More than 100 participants signed-up to the event, with around 50 showing up on the day.[2] The event was met with problems due to the realistic quality of the body-parts, which were coated in chicken liver to add to the realism. The Metropolitan Police received complaints regarding the body parts, and the participants meeting-up on Westminster Bridge were asked to leave the area, convincing the PR team to abandon the event early.[3] One head, two torsos, and six limbs were not accounted for, either being kept by participants or by curious pedestrians, and the PR team advised they be disposed of due to the health risk posed by the chicken livers.[3][4] In spite of the police complaint, one participant who did recover several body parts was declared the winner.[2]
