Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was the first game to implement the idea of a dodge-like mechanic. Rather than being a full-on dodge, it acts more as a parry. If the player aims just before an enemy attacks, the character will push the enemy away, duck, or roll out of the enemy's way. If Jill or Carlos does a roll, their fire rate will be briefly faster. The second method is by holding aim and using the action button just before an enemy attacks. In order for this to be done, the weapon used must have ammo loaded.

Resident Evil: Revelations[]
The dodge mechanic in Resident Evil: Revelations can only be used when an enemy is about to hit the player. Failing to dodge at the right time will result in the player taking damage. On Xbox, the player must hold A and push the thumbstick forward to dodge. On PlayStation, the player must hold X and push the thumbstick forward to dodge. If an enemy isn't present, the dodge animation will not play out. The best time to dodge is when an enemy is about to hit the player. Thankfully, the player usually has a couple of seconds to prepare themselves to dodge. Most enemies have an animation in which they raise one of their limbs or lunge at the player. When this animation starts to end, it's the best time to dodge. Other enemies will charge at the player and to dodge successfully, one must wait until the enemy is about to hit them.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2[]
The dodge mechanic in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 only requires the press of one button. To dodge, the player must press O (on a PlayStation) or A (for Xbox). Unlike Resident Evil 6, the direction the player points towards doesn't change how the player dodges. Dodging doesn't guarantee the player will take no damage and if not executed properly, the player can be grabbed or take damage.
Resident Evil 3 (2020)[]
The dodge mechanic that was firstly introduced in the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis made its return in the 2020 remake. However, the dodge mechanic has been greatly improved. Players can use the dodge button to avoid most enemy attacks, such as a grab attack from a Zombie.
Carlos, however, cannot dodge. His dodge mechanic is instead replaced with a counterattack where he can perform a single punch with moderate area effect which inflicts fair damage while also knocking back most enemies caught.
When a perfect dodge is triggered, the player can also automatically aim at the enemy that they dodged while having a slow-motion effect, giving them time to shoot.
