Dr. Brown was one of the researchers working in The Hive. When he, Dr. Blue and Dr. Bolt became trapped inside a sealed, flooding room, Brown attempted to use an emergency fire axe to break through the reinforced window. He failed and they all drowned. Later, after being reanimated as an Undead by the T-virus, the Undead Brown still carried the axe around. He was ultimately killed for good by Rain Ocampo.

In the novelization of the first film, Resident Evil: Genesis, Dr. Brown named "Johnny-Wayne Carlson".[1]
