Dreams of a Madman is a cutscene in Resident Evil 5. All cutscenes for the game were storyboarded by yU+co. artist, Jerry Bingham.[1]

Plot[]

Albert Wesker, observing Chris and Sheva's progress from a control room on the ship, acknowledges that the two BSAA agents have gotten as far as they did, but admits they aren't going to make it much further before failing.

He then flashes back to his first, and last, encounter with his former boss at the defunct Umbrella Corporation, Oswell E. Spencer, at his European home three years prior. Spencer had revealed to Wesker of how the Wesker children, imbued with endless potential, had been his intended new breed of humans via the progenitor virus, and that Wesker was the only remaining survivor of the project. Wesker then asked Spencer if he was implying that everything Wesker had done up to that point had in fact been "manufactured". Spencer then lamented that he was to become a god and rule over a new race of human beings, but he couldn't continue the project thanks largely to the events of the Raccoon City Destruction Incident, with Wesker silently expressing rage at this revelation. Spencer then acknowledged that, despite the setback caused by the destruction of Raccoon City, Wesker's existence still held great significance to his goals. Spencer then alludes to his impending death by telling Wesker that his "candle grows dimly", and noted the irony about how someone who in his view had the right to be a god, is about to face his own mortality just as turns to face Wesker (who had approached him during his monologue with murderous intent). Wesker, noting what Spencer said about godhood, then declared that it was now his to take and thus thrusted his hand straight through Spencer, killing the former Umbrella founder instantly. Looking over Spencer's corpse, he then told him bluntly that Spencer's arrogance blinded him to the fact that he would never become a god, and, in clear reference to himself, only someone who was actually capable of achieving such a state deserved that right, before going back to the window.

In the present, Wesker then mentions he will soon have the right to become a god via Uroboros.

Transcript[]

Albert Wesker: "So you've made it this far... Too bad you won't make it much further."

Oswell E. Spencer: "...a new superior breed of humans given birth by the progenitor virus. The Wesker children were entrusted with endless potential. Of them, only one survived. You."

Wesker: "Are you saying I was manufactured?"

Spencer: "I was to become a god... creating a new world with an advanced race of human beings."
"However, all was lost with Raccoon City."
"Despite that setback, your creation still holds great significance."
"Now my candle burns dimly."
"Ironic, isn't it? For one who has the right to be a god! To face his own mortality..."

Wesker: "The right to be a god..."
"That right is now mine."
"The right to be a god? You? Arrogant even until the end. Only one truly capable of being a god deserves that right."

Wesker: "The right... With Uroboros, I have that right."
