Ed was a mercenary of the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service, a company of hired-hands of shady backgrounds trained to dispose B.O.W.s, should there ever be a biological outbreak large enough to require their assistance. Ed was assigned to the squad of Klaus, who were sent on a special mission different from the other UBCS present in Raccoon City. Their mission was to collect Dr. Cameron's data on a new virus created during the outbreak.[1]
While guarding the team's HUMVEE on a crossroads while the others searched the sewers, Ed was attacked by a crow infected with Cameron's very virus. Due to the nature of this mutagen, the doctor's mind was transferred into Ed's body. He then began to mutate into a grotesque form only resembling a human in gait, and was eventually destroyed by Klaus, using a machine gun turret attached to the HUMVEE.
