The Raccoon Police Department (R.P.D.) was the centre of law enforcement in Raccoon City.[1][2]

History[]

In September 2002, a strain of T-virus escaped from The Hive, an Umbrella bioweapons research complex beneath the city. The R.P.D. was put on alert and almost its entire workforce began dealing with the Undead. In the first hours of the outbreak, the R.P.D. was working on the assumption they were dealing with rioters, and Undead were arrested and taken back to the Raccoon Police Station. A police and K-9 unit was sent out to Raccoon City Junior School to protect the children from the Undead, but quickly failed. By nightfall the R.P.D. including their Special Tactics and Rescue Squad were assisting in evacuations of civilians over Raven's Gate Bridge, but this operation was cut short when Umbrella's elite security forces prevented any further outbound traffic. Rather than defend the precinct, the R.P.D. was spread out across the city for the rest of the night, losing officers at Park Street. Thirteen S.T.A.R.S. members under Captain Henderson used the Westwood Theater as their fortress, but were killed by Nemesis, an augment human bioweapon developed by Umbrella. Following this attack, Nemesis pursued Alice - another augmented human - back to the police station but left after giving her up for dead.

Uniforms[]

Excluding one officer at Raven's Gate, all patrol officers wear long-sleeve versions of the regular patrol uniform from the games. An interesting fact is that besides Jill's photo, no patrol officer wears their badge on their chest. The Special Tactics And Rescue Squad each wear the same uniform of a white short-sleeved shirt with the S.T.A.R.S. logo on the right sleeve, green Kevlar vest, South African type tactical vest, tan pants, elbow pads, knee pads, black fingerless gloves and black combat boots.

Detectives are featured in the film wearing either street clothes or suits and wearing their badges attached to wallets on their chest.

Equipment[]

Like their game counterpart, the RPD appears to use Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptors as their standard vehicles.
