Gadiwell‏‎ is a Scandinavian island in the North Sea near Norway. It was the site of two viral outbreaks one of which occurred around the turn of the 21st century.

History

500 years prior to the present Gadiwell had come under the reign of the Beardsley family who built a large castle on the southern side of Mount Wall away from the island’s main village which lay on the northern side of the mountain. From said castle the family and its supporters would regularly venture forth to try and conquer neighboring lands. Gradually though the family's power began to wane a process which culminated in a popular uprising in the 18th century that replaced their aristocratic rule with a parliamentary one and turned the family into little more than wealthy landowners. Subsequently, due to its position in the North Sea, Gadiwell was culturally and economically isolated into the 20th century, supported by little more than the local fishing industry. In the late 1970s though Gadiwell saw a renaissance after the 16th Earl Beardsley opened up the island to newly founded Umbrella Pharmaceuticals Corporation. Over the next 10 years, the island was electrified and a daily ferry service to the mainland established. With it came a hospital and a research institute for Umbrella. This renaissance was, however, short-lived as a T-Virus outbreak on the island would kill most of the inhabitants. While the incident was covered-up internationally, many of the surviving residents were deeply traumatized by what they had experienced during the incident which became a legend whispered to their children. 20 years after the initial outbreak a second outbreak during the era of Mylène Beardsley, 17th Countess Beardsley would lead to the downfall of the Beardsley family and see the end of Umbrella operations on the island.
