The Giant Chainsaw Man is a special Chainsaw Ganado on the Waterworld level in the Resident Evil 4 minigame The Mercenaries. He is a non-canon, upgraded version of Chainsaw Man. He also makes an appearance in Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D.

Description and capabilities

The Giant Chainsaw Man is armed with two chainsaws chained together with sparks flying off the blades. His attack will kill the player in a single slash by decapitation. Unlike the Chainsaw Sisters and Chainsaw Man, who execute slow swings, Super Salvador flails wildly. While attacking, he moves as fast as a walking player. Furthermore, he is extremely fast and can even leap over to other structures, making it difficult to make space between the player and him. His jumping abilities have no boundaries, and he is capable of jumping several dozen feet straight up, defying the laws of gravity. Making space between him and the player is crucial because of his deadly one-hit kill swing.

Killing the Super Salvador

The Giant Chainsaw Man is very difficult to kill, and only Jack Krauser's 'Plaga Arm Attack' can take him out in one hit. However, you can shoot him in the head to cause him to cover his face, creating an opening. Albert Wesker, if unlocked, can also kill him without much trouble with his Killer7 and Semi-Auto Rifle. Stunning a nearby enemy, and then using Wesker's "Thrust Punch" can also knock him out, although this is a little tricky to pull off. Ada Wong, with her own Semi-Auto Rifle can easily eliminate him. Incendiary Grenades are guaranteed to stop him for a few seconds, allowing the player to attack or run. It is also possible to kill him with the knife by slashing him when jumping, though only skilled players should attempt that feat. When controlling HUNK, the easiest way to kill him is with the Hand Grenades, shooting the red barrels in the way to blast him off, or shooting and throwing grenades from a safe distance. It is possible to kill him using HUNK's TMP, but it will take a long time, since it lacks firepower. Some players may consider him "weaker" to his counterpart, as the Giant Chainsaw Man may be killed with a maximum of 3 or 4 rifle shots to the head or 2 to 3 shots with the Killer7. This may be because the weapons have been specially modified to make the minigame fair. Also, it takes 7 well aimed shots to the head with Leon S. Kennedy's Riot Gun, but provided that Leon is not distracted by other Ganados which will appear from behind and in greater numbers whenever the Giant Chainsaw Man appears. It may be wise to run to the other side of the map and shoot him with the Blacktail. This will take exactly 26 shots, granted you hit him in the torso.

Strategy

  • Never try to fight him when bowmen are around, they can stop your movement every time they hit you. If you're being chased, run inside where they have a lower chance of hitting you.
  • Aim for the head always when using handguns, TMP or shotguns as body hits don't make him flinch often.
  • Keep in mind that sometimes even magnums or explosions fail to make him flinch so be prepared to run if that happens.
  • The Giant Chainsaw Man may be big, but has the same health as the ordinary chainsaw ganado.
  • Make use of the zip-line in the level to quickly put a lot of distance between you and the Giant Chainsaw Man.
  • Ganado holding sticks of dynamite will sometimes stun a Giant Chainsaw Man, giving players a moment of opportunity.
  • Occasionally, two Super Salvadors will be present on the map simultaneously. Players must exercise extreme caution if this occurs.

The Mercenaries 3D

  • The Giant Chainsaw Man returns as a miniboss character within the game. His appearance and methods of attack are the same as his Resident Evil 4 counterpart, but his HP is significantly heightened. He has, arguably, the highest HP of any miniboss character in the game and is rivaled only by the Red Executioner Majini in terms of endurance. An example of his extreme vitality and persistence is how he can take a full chamber of Barry Burton's S&W 500 magnum rounds to the head and body and still not die. He is far more dangerous than a regular Chainsaw Majini as he is not so "hesitant" to attack the player and his surprising speed surpasses that of most other enemies. Like most miniboss type enemies in the game, he explodes upon death. It should be noted that the player must back away quickly after performing a melee move, for he immediately begins his rampage in about 3 seconds. This can be a problem for the player if playing as Barry Burton, as his Hurricane melee move he performs on Salvador lasts for 3 seconds, which can cause instant death as soon as Barry has finised the move. Jack Krauser also suffers a similar problem with his Drop Kick move.

Trivia

  • His jumping animation is reused from J.J.'s. Furthermore, he will hold his chainsaw as if it were a Gatling Gun. He also has similar sound effects to J.J. as well.
  • In the "Shanty Town" level in Resident Evil 5, there is a double-bladed chainsaw in one of the shacks. This may be a reference to Super Salvador.
  • He is the only one of three sub-bosses in the game that dissolves upon death.
  • In the Mercenaries 3D, he cannot decapitate the player. (due to censorship policies Capcom has made following RE4. In Japan, the policies go back to RE2 however.) Instead, the player is thrown across screen and killed when hit by his chainsaw.
