Prime universe
(Capcom's primary storyline)

The Graveyard Zombie is a class of enemy encountered in Resident Evil, Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and Resident Evil CODE:Veronica. As Capcom has previously made it clear that the t-Virus does not reanimate the dead, there is always some loophole for them to use this traditional zombie icon.

Resident Evil remake Graveyard Zombies

The two versions of Graveyard Zombie in this game.

In the 2002 remake of Resident Evil, the Graveyard Zombies inhabit the graveyard immediately behind the entrance hall. They are as strong as the Staff Zombies, but are unable to undergo the V-ACT process and become Crimson Heads. There are two separate variants of Graveyard Zombie - thin and obese.[1][excerpt 1]

In CODE:Veronica, Graveyard Zombies inhabit the Prison camp's cemetery. It is revealed that they had been infected with the t-Virus and subsequently buried alive; they were able to climb up and attack Claire Redfield when the rain loosened the soil.[2]
