A Handgun is a firearm capable of being wielded single-handed. It is one of the most basic weapons in the Resident Evil series, and is often the very first weapon the player has access to alongside the knife.
Handguns in the Resident Evil series come in many shapes and forms, but are almost always loaded with 9mm Parabellum rounds. Handgun ammunition is common in the main series; but inifinite handgun ammo is present in most of the Rail Shooter type games like The Darkside Chronicles.
An expert Resident Evil player might use only handguns to complete the games; knowing these firearms offer high accuracy, low recoil, and plentiful ammo.
- The standard sidearm of the elite S.T.A.R.S. team is the Beretta 92F handgun, some customized into the Samurai Edge variant.
