The MP5 is a 9mm sub-machine gun designed by German gun manufacturer Heckler & Koch in the late sixties, based on the G3 series of assault rifles. It's gained a reputation for extreme accuracy for a sub-machine gun and as a police and special forces weapon due to its use by several military and law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Special Forces, Special Air Service, GSG-9, GIGN and several Special Weapons and Tactics teams.

The MP5 was the weapon of choice for the Select Police Force and the Umbrella Security Service. The player can use the MP5 in Resident Evil Outbreak and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles and they have been seen in Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and most recently in Resident Evil: Revelations. It is often one of the primary machine guns featured.

In Resident Evil games

Resident Evil Zero

  • Heckler & Koch M-59 Project Model 59: An early variant of the MP5. It is available in Resident Evil Zero as an unlockable weapon. To unlock it, receive an A ranking upon successfully completing the game. Infinite ammunition can be unlocked by taking 100 Leech Charms in the Leech Hunter minigame.

Resident Evil 2

  • MP5A3: Members of the U.S.S. are seen using this weapon against Birkin. A member of the RPD is also seen using one before the helicopter crash on the helipad. It was never used during gameplay.

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

  • MP5A3: Members of the R.P.D. Select Police Force are seen using this weapon while trying to hold back an incoming wave of undead. It was never made usable in the game.

Resident Evil Survivor

  • MP5A3: The Under Taker Units use this sub-machine gun in the game.

Resident Evil Outbreak File 1 & 2

  • MP5A2: An MP5A2 with a modified fore grip which includes a flashlight. In File 1, it can be found on the hospital roof of The Hive. Only Kevin and Cindy can acquire it though. In File 2, It can be found in the garage shutter or the holding cells (after giving Ben the right film) in Desperate Times. It can also be found on various locations in End of the Road.
  • In both Files it has 120 damage unlike the assault rifle it is highly advised not to be used at close range as the weapon suffers from lack of power and it's failure to make enemies flinch.
  • It is incorrectly referred to as an "automatic handgun" in Outbreak File #2.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

  • M-59 Project Model 59: The first sub-machine gun obtained.
  • MP5A2: The second sub-machine gun obtained.

Resident Evil 5

  • MP5A3: Equipped with a red dot sight, the SureFire handguard with a laser instead of the flashlight, and the Navy trigger group . It is found in a briefcase in the beginning of chapter 2-1. Here it features a base firepower of 60, a reload speed of 2.70 seconds and a capacity of 45 rounds, and its maximum stats are a firepower of 120, a reload speed of 2.10 seconds and a capacity of 150 rounds. It has the special ability of "Piercing" much like the H&K P8.

Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

  • MP5A3: A variant of the MP5 is seen in the hands of both U.S.S. and Government Spec Ops forces. It is known as the Submachine gun in game. It generally resembles the MP5A3 seen in other games, but lacks a reflex sight. It does, however, have a laser sight, much like it did in Resident Evil 5. It also seems to be the standard weapon of the U.B.C.S. mercenaries. This weapon is unlocked right at the start, and doesn't need to be purchased using experience points. The MP5 is the most average out of the Sub-Machine Guns, with mediocre damage, accuracy, and range, but its best point is its moderately high fire rate. It has a 30 round magazine, and can hold 210 reserve. While the ammo amount seems to be large, due to its high rate of fire this ammo will dissapear quickly if not properly managed. This is why burst firing is recommended, both to conserve ammunition and increase accuracy.

Resident Evil Revelations

The MP5A3 returns in Revelations as the Machine Gun MP5. Is identical in configuration to the one in Resident Evil 5, with the addition of a foregrip.

In Resident Evil films

Resident Evil: Degeneration

  • MP5K-PDW: Angela Miller is seen using this variant with a custom hand guard (known as Angle grip) and fore grip that includes an integrated flashlight as well as a raised top rail mounted in place of the factory original sights very similar to a G36C's and a retractable butt stock instead of the PDW folding stock. (PDW =Personal Defense Weapon)

Resident Evil (film)

Rain Ocampo and Alfonso Warner used an MP5K in the movie as their primary weapon. Alice also found one in her bedroom drawer.

S.T.A.R.S. members were seen using the MP5A3, while Alice had a pair of custom MP5Ks with the foregrips removed and nickel plated receivers, sometimes the Reflex sighting optics can be seen.

Alice once again utilizes this weapon during the zombie attack on the prison roof. Oddly enough, she doesn't dual-wield this weapon like she did before.

In Resident Evil: The Deck Building Game

The MP5 is a Weapon card in the Resident Evil DBG, here called the

FullboremachinegunDBG

Full Bore Machine Gun Card

Full Bore Machine Gun. The FBMG is the "special weapon" of the Machine Gun deck in the Resource Area. Its effect states that if a player is Exploring with it and has more than 100 ammo, the weapon gets +30 Damage, giving it 70 Damage altogether. Its Gold Cost is 100, making it one of them most expensive cards in the game. It has an ammo requirement of 70 and its base damage is 40.

Trivia

  • This weapon's description at the Operation Raccoon City weapon menu also states that it is popular with the Umbrella Secret Service and the RPD's S.W.A.T. division. Both statements are correct.
