Dr. Jim Knable was a character that appeared in the novelization of Resident Evil: Extinction.

Dr. Jim Knable was an Umbrella employee, a scientist who developed a way to test blood for the presence of the T-virus. He was present in Raccoon City at the time of the T-virus outbreak there, testing those who tried to leave via the checkpoint at Raven's Gate Bridge.

At some point, he unknowingly became infected,[1] and was later moved to San Francisco, where he succumbed to the effects of the virus. The Mission District was soon overwhelmed and the rest of the country followed shortly after. As a zombie, Knable infected and was subsequently killed by Dr. Jaime Cerota, who laid him to rest with a single shot to the head. As the only surviving carrier from Raccoon, Knable unintentionally led to the global T-virus pandemic.

  1. presumably through the open cut on his finger: his finger was cut at some point and the Band-Aid fell off and he at one point fell, shattering a vial of infected blood he was carrying, presumably some of the infected blood got into his cut giving him the T-virus as he was never bitten
