Keaton was a member of the B.S.A.A.'s North American Alpha Team in its 2013 reconstituted form, formed under the leadership of acting-Captain Piers Nivans in lieu of Captain Chris Redfield. Reunited with Chris in June, Alpha Team set off for Lanshiang, China to intervene in Neo-Umbrella's terrorist campaign. He was taken by the Iluzja shortly after the completion of Alpha Team's initial objective - the evacuation of UN hostages. Searching for the creature, Keaton's body was discovered by Marco Rose, who commented that it was "no way for a soldier to die".
