Dooley was a skilled aviation mechanic and accomplished stunt pilot hired to fly the R.P.D.'s single-engine Eurocopter AS 350B-2 Ecureuil and Bell Textron UH-1B "Huey" helicopters. During his time with the force, he was instrumental in assisting the members of S.T.A.R.S. in rescuing lost civilians from the Arklay Mountains and Raccoon Forest. Despite his past in the entertainment industry, he took his responsibility as a pilot very seriously.
Arklay Incident Investigation[]
On Thursday, July 23, 1998, Dooley was assigned as a primary pilot to the S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team instead of Edward Dewey, who was appointed co-pilot, presumably so that Dewey could effectively carry out his duties as rear security officer.[1] At approximately 22:00 hours, the helicopter's engine experienced a sudden catastrophic failure, and the team was forced to make an emergency landing. Struggling with the cyclic control stick and anti-torque pedals, Dooley and Dewey kept the helicopter in the air until the tail rotor collided with a tree branch, sending the aircraft into a violent spin. However, the pair could still bring the battered helicopter down in one piece.[2]
Following the landing, Dooley stayed behind as Bravo Team scouted the surrounding area and were eventually split up due to attacks from mutant creatures. Dooley was caught in the cockpit by a Cerberus, which gouged out his eyes with its claws and killed him.[3][excerpt 1] His mutilated corpse was discovered still in his seat by S.T.A.R.S. Alpha team member Joseph Frost the following night, shortly before he, too, was killed by the Cerberus pack.[4]
