Kirk "Hat Trick" Mathison was an operative of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (BSAA), serving as one of their helicopter pilots. He first appeared in Resident Evil 5 but was also in Resident Evil: Revelations, which is a prequel game set in 2005.

In 2005, Mathison was sent to rescue BSAA operatives Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from a B.O.W. called the Malacoda on the Queen Zenobia, providing them with air support. With his help, the two managed to subdue the beast. Afterwards, he flew them to the remains of the Queen Dido, and then returned them to the BSAA Headquarters.
