I'm losing engine power! Oh shit! I'm out of control! I'm going down!

Mayday! Mayday!

Kirk Mathison was an operative of the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance (B.S.A.A.), serving as one of their helicopter pilots under the callsign "Hat Trick".[2]

History

Unusually for a B.S.A.A. member, Mathison joined the B.S.A.A. directly and learned all of his techniques in the organization, making him a so-called "genuine" member. He was assigned to the West African branch as part of the SOU(Special Operations Unit) Air Support Platoon, where he became a helicopter pilot.

Queen Zenobia incident

In 2005, Mathison was sent to rescue B.S.A.A. angents Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine from the Malacoda B.O.W. on the Queen Zenobia, providing them with air support. With his help the two managed to subdue the beast.

However the Malacoda revived itself and the two agents were forced to defend themselves from its tentacles. They managed to weaken the Malacoda enough to fire a missile down its throat, killing it for good.

Kijuju incident

In 2009, Mathison was assigned to assist the Alpha Team led by Dan DeChant and Bravo Team, Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar, during the operation in Kijuju. In this operation, he was in charge of the transmission to the headquarters and the backup of the ground forces, providing air support. He was killed following a helicopter crash during the mission in the Kijuju Autonomous Zone after his helicopter was attacked by a flying swarm of Kipepeo, the flying form of Type 2 Plagas, creatures. Once Chris and Sheva arrived at the crash site, the helicopter was completely engulfed in flames and Kirk was found dead, burnt and impaled through his upper body by a pole.

Trivia

  • Kirk dies in a helicopter crash, just like Mike from Resident Evil 4. However, the fact that he was the only one pulled out of the crash and burned on the top of a pole might indicate that he survived the landing, only to be executed by the Majini.
  • Kirk's body being impaled and burned is similar to what the Ganado did to one of the Spanish Cops in Resident Evil 4.
  • The sound clip of Kirk telling Chris and Sheva to "take cover" at the end of the Public Assembly stage in Resident Evil 5 is the same exact sound file used in Resident Evil 4, when chopper pilot Mike warns Leon to "take cover."
