(Capcom's primary storyline)
(An alternate timeline in the Prime universe)
Kite Bros. Railway (カイトブロス・レールウェイ(KBS) kaitoburosu rēruwei ( keibīesu ) ) was Raccoon City's first subway system, it operated along eight stations and was privately run. It was one of two subway systems in the city, the other being managed independently by the Umbrella Corporation, which maintained its own separate tunnels and stations.[1][2][3]
History[]
1960s
The company was founded in 1969 by two brothers, Werner and Oral Kite. Initially, the railway ran along just 2 miles of track and featured only three stations.
1980s
By 1989, with financial backing from the Umbrella Corporation, the railway expanded to 8.5 miles of track and five more stations were added to their railway map.
1990s
On September 18th, 1998, a subway employee named Ricky was bitten by what he described as a "big-ass bug". Shortly after, the wound became swollen and increasingly itchy.[4]
Within a day or two, Ricky's vision began to blur, and he complained about everything appearing unusually dark. He was later attacked again by a bug and, in a state of growing paranoia and rage, swore to kill it.
As his condition worsened through the days, Ricky began to lose touch with reality, complaining about a noise inside his head and referring to "bugs" in the plural. His body was later discovered in the men's restroom on the west side of South Raccoon Street Station by fellow employee Jim Chapman.
On September 23rd, the t-Virus epidemic in Raccoon City escalated beyond control when a zombie inside Warren Stadium triggered a riot that quickly spread throughout the city. Unable to contain the chaos, the Raccoon Police Department issued a city-wide evacuation order.[5][6][7][8] As the situation worsened, many residents sought refuge in the subway stations. One particular group of survivors was led by subway employee Jim Chapman. Although he initially insisted there was no way out of the city through the subway, they managed to restore the power grid and get Train 0928 operational. However, during the process, they were attacked by several giant mutated insects known as "Bites". Despite the danger, the group managed to fight back and kill what appeared to be the largest of the creatures.
By October 1st, the same group of survivors—now led by George Hamilton—discovered a hidden platform beneath Raccoon University, one that even Jim was unfamiliar with. Just a few meters ahead, they came across a derailed train labeled "901" and a tunnel that had been dug beneath the tracks.[9] It is likely that the tunnel was created by one of the several Grave Diggers known to be roaming beneath Raccoon City's terrain.[10]
Remakes[]
At the Redstone street station the Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service detachment under Captain Mikhail Viktor turned the underground area into a safe haven for citizens fleeing the disaster above ground. The intention was to use the train to evacuate the civilians and his remaining soldiers using the train.

Further Notes[]
The design of the Raccoon Subway was inspired by New York City's iconic rapid transit system. In Resident Evil Outbreak, the subway trains closely resemble New York's "Redbird" trains, which began operating in the 1960s which is the same decade KBS was founded.
