Resident Evil 2 (1998)[]
Leon is one of the protagonists in the original Resident Evil 2. He starts with Heckler & Koch VP70, a Knife, a Lighter and eight spaces for items in his inventory. When a zombie attempts to bite his foot, Leon will proceed to curbstomp the zombie as opposed to Claire who will kick the head clean off. His scenario partner is Ada Wong.
Leon's alternate costumes varies according to the played version. In all versions, to unlock the outfits, the player must start a game in scenario A on Normal or Hard mode and follow the path to the Police Department front entrance without picking up any items, then kill zombie Brad Vickers in order to acquire the Special Key, that can be used to open the locker in the Dark Room. He also will hold the handgun differently with either costume equipped (except with armored S.T.A.R.S. uniform).

The machine gun itself and his knife also change the appearance, being the first it will feature a foregrip and the magazine will be changed to an ammo drum while the second is reskinned into a switchblade.

Resident Evil 6[]
Campaign[]
Leon's section in Resident Evil 6's story mode is heavily focused on the survival horror genre, just like the early Resident Evil games. In most parts of his segment, the player must advance slowly over dark and claustrophobic places with an intense horror atmosphere. His scenario also marks the return of classic enemies such as the Zombies. Leon's unique ability is the dual wielding - making him the only character able to use two weapons at the same time. His primary weapons are a pair of Wing Shooters and a Survival Knife. Leon's partner during his scenario is Helena Harper.
By pressing the attack button, Leon can perform a series of physical attacks. In addition, much like the other characters in the game, Leon also has some contextual-based action attacks, a melee system used in Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 5.
Melee Attacks[]
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Left Kick | Leon performs a straight kick directly into the enemy's face. This can only be performed by pressing the attack button with a one-handed weapon or item equipped. |
Left Kick to Right Kick | Leon attacks the enemy with his Left Kick followed by a second kick, thus leaving him vulnerable for a finishing attack. This can only be performed by pressing the attack button twice with a one-handed weapon or item equipped. |
Tackle | Leon sprints into an enemy and performs a shoulder tackle, hitting him in the torso and leaving the enemy vulnerable for a finishing attack. This move can only be performed by pressing the physical attack button during the sprint action. |
Contextual Attacks[]

Bulldog (Back heavy stun) | From behind an enemy, Leon jumps at the enemy's back and falls, using his body weight to smash the enemy's face to the ground. This is most commonly performed on a heavily stunned enemy from behind. |

Elbow (Grapple Breaker) | Leon will swing his elbow into the face of an enemy, pushing him away. This is done to an enemy that is grappling Leon from behind. |
Low Kick (Counter) | A simple counterattack, Leon ducks under an attacking enemy and swiftly kicks them in the torso. This is performed as a counter-attack to an unarmed zombie attempting to scratch the player. |
Weapon Bash (Elbow) (Counter) | A counterattack, Leon evades an incoming attack and elbows the enemy in the back of the head before taking their weapon away and using it to cave in their head. This is performed as a counter-attack to a zombie attacking with a melee weapon such as an iron pipe or axe. |

Resident Evil 2 (2019)[]
Leon returns as one of the main playable character in the remake of Resident Evil 2. His assignments are almost the same as the original game, although now their statistics are no different from Claire and his exclusive weapons are Matilda, W-870, Lightning Hawk and Chemical Flamethrower, all upgradable, plus the M19 in his second scenario. Leon's segment is also considered more difficult than Claire's, as it has two exclusive bosses, in this case the Giant Alligator and the T-00 in its "Super Tyrant" form. However, in compensation, he will not face William Birkin in his G4 form.
Initially, Leon had only two unlockable alternate outfit in addition to the three he wears in the main game, however, with Downloadable content updates, he gained to three more costumes:
