The Mad Dogs were a U.S. Army special operations unit headquartered at Fort Bliss, Texas. They were active in the 1990s, and were involved in the 2000 Penamstan Civil War. During this conflict they were under the overall authority of Colonel Wilson.[1]

History[]

Wilson, then a Colonel, was the commanding officer, while Jason was a Captain in the unit. Unknown to all except Wilson (and the soldiers directly involved), another squad, Alpha Two, were used as test subjects for a modified strain of the t-Virus that Wilson and TRICELL had been working on, planning to turn the soldiers into B.O.W.s. The Mad Dogs were flying above a city in Penamstan via helicopter alongside Alpha Two when the latter squad's helicopter was shot down by insurgents. Jason volunteered his squad against Wilson's orders to land and attempt a rescue of Alpha Two. However, they were only able to save an injured Jun Shī. The bodies of the other Alpha Two soldiers were claimed by insurgents and hung up on display from a statue. As they moved to burn the bodies, the seemingly dead soldiers suddenly reanimated as zombies, tore themselves free, and attacked the insurgents, killing or infecting many of them. While hiding out in an abandoned building for the night with Jun Shī, the Mad Dogs were swarmed by a group of zombified civilians, and despite being able to kill all of them, they were all bitten and hence infected themselves. Jun Shī gave up his own supply of inhibitors in order to prevent the Mad Dogs from turning. Given what happened to the test subjects, they were thus unable to provide accurate test information.

To prevent an uncontrolled t-Virus outbreak, Wilson ordered the city's bombing with MK-77s and covered up the zombies by erasing satellite footage of their attacks. He also left the Mad Dogs for dead by deliberately neglecting to try contacting them after they went MIA or sending out a search-and-rescue party. Left on their own, the Mad Dogs narrowly escaped the bombing and carried Jun Shī in a body bag for 70 miles on foot back to their Forward Operating Base. While discussing their suspicions regarding the entire ordeal, they were met by Warrant Officer Shenmei, Jun Shī's sister, who revealed Wilson's betrayal. Wilson himself eventually found out about the Mad Dogs' return and sought to exploit them in Alpha Two's place, providing them with more inhibitor samples in exchange for them filing false reports about the situation and remaining silent. Only Jason and Shenmei were prepared to investigate Wilson while the other soldiers were discharged from duty over time. Meanwhile, Shenmei had the now-zombified Jun Shī quietly smuggled to China to prevent him from being discovered and executed.

By 2006, all members of the Mad Dogs besides Jason had committed suicide out of fear of mutating. During the Penamstan Conspiracy Incidents, Jason mutated and infected Wilson while intending to show his mutated form to the public to reveal the truth behind what happened during the war. While Jason was killed by Leon Scott Kennedy before this could happen, Leon chose not to hand over the data chip he received from Shenmei about Wilson's crimes to Claire Redfield in order to protect the memory of the Mad Dogs and prevent the newfound peace between the United States and Penamstan from being destroyed.
