(Capcom's primary storyline)
Man-eating spiders (食人蜘蛛 shokujin kumo ) are a species of Mold imitation organism endemic to the Dulvey Parish bayou in Louisiana.
History[]
Like other Mold imitations, the man-eating spiders were born from the Mold, a fungal bioweapon. They were used in the Baker ranch's old house to defend it, making their nests on doors ready to pounce on introducers. These organisms are assumed destroyed following the joint BSAA/Blue Umbrella quarantine of the bayou.
Biology[]
Man-eating spiders are Mold imitations of a species in the Araneus genus of an orb-weaving spider. Unlike naturally occurring spiders, the imitations have only six legs.[1][excerpt 1] Further, while orb-weaving spiders tend to be migratory, highly aggressive and cannibalistic, man-eating spiders live together in small colonies covering specific parts of the old house. Man-eating spiders have powerful fangs capable of inflicting injury on even humans without need for venom. They are also able to bore through wood and other soft materials. Due to their powerful legs, these spiders can jump at enemies even a foot away.
Gameplay[]
Man-eating spiders are encountered in Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. They appear in the Old House blocking a cabinet before Marguerite Baker is defeated. Spiders appears various on doors and cabinets. They only attack when the player gets to close and do little damage. All of them will need to be killed in order to open the door or access the contents of the cabinets they are blocking. Removing all the spiders with a knife will unlock the Slash Slash, Slashity Slash! award.

Further notes[]
- Though the Mold's ability to imitate animal life is not explained in-game, it is possible Eveline's mold assimilated their DNA during her time in the bayou. The Mold supercolony would then asexually reproduce the imitation spiders, such as through budding or fragmentation.
- Whether or not the spiders were solely the produce of Marguerite Baker is not confirmed, though she is shown to have been capable of asexually producing imitation animals.
