Character design[]

The design for Manuela's white dress was a homage to Jennifer Connelly, the protagonist of the Italian horror film "Phenomena", who also wears such a dress.^[1]^{[excerpt 1]}

Mutation design[]

INSIDE OF BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES - page 94

Earlier in The Darkside Chronicles' development, Manuela's mutation was plant-like, and comparable to Alexia Ashford's first mutation in CODE: Veronica. INSIDE OF BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES refers to her as "Manuela Monster" in this form, akin to "Steve Monster".

Manuela's right arm was initially portrayed as though flowering, with the flesh curling in. Her two remaining fingers and a thumb would become long branches.
