Mark Korven (born October 7, 1966) is an Academy Award-nominated American film composer, musician and multi-instrumentalist who first rose to prominence after his work on the cult sci-fi horror film Cube, he has since gone on to score other notable works starting with The VVitch, In the Tall Grass, The Lighthouse, and Them.[1]

Korven is known for his often abstract and inventive approach towards instrumentation and scoring, often working alongside the director to compose music and soundscapes that captures the tonal aesthetic of the film itself (such as the eerie foghorn in The Lighthouse). He is also responsible for the creation of the "Apprehension Engine", a custom electronic percussive string instrument which he uses to score horror films.

It was announced on May, in an interview with editor Dev Singh, that Korven was composing the soundtrack for Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City.[2] Korven's involvement was officially announced on October 29, 2020.[3]

Trivia[]

  • Korven's score for Cube includes a sample of 'To Burble and Pine' by David Thorn, which would later be sampled in a wealth of early 2000's video games, including Resident Evil 4 as the save room theme: 'Serenity'.
