Mine Detector is an item in Resident Evil Outbreak File #2. It appears in the End of the Road scenario.[1]
Purpose[]
You can use this device to detect the presence of mines so you can safely avoid them. When equipped, the detector will beep slowly, growing more and more rapid the closer the mine is to the player. However, the player can only use their basic tackle attack while holding the mine detector and must unequip it if they wish to use an actual weapon. This can be problematic if the Tyrant appears in the side street, not the main street, as it means the claymores found there might be ran into while trying to avoid attack.
It should be noted, while they will pick it up, the AI cannot and will not use the mine detector, choosing instead to run around blindly and, more often than not, directly into the mines. Furthermore, the distance of the camera and position of the mines might mean, even with the detector, the player risks running into them anyway.
Location[]
The detector can be found on the corpse of a soldier against a car Behind the residential area. This means, if you don't defeat Tyrant before finding Linda and wash up in the sewers near the Apple Inn, you'll have a harder time avoiding mines but have an easier time escorting Linda to the Helicopter as the timer won't start until the apartment building cutscene.
