The Mine Thrower is a unique weapon featured in Resident Evil 4. It is an upgradable weapon.

  +
Gameplay
The Mine Thrower is an explosive-projectile weapon, somewhat similar to a Grenade Launcher, except for the fact that its explosive 'darts' will attach to the target when hit. It first appears in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis where it can be found and used by Jill. A different model appears in Resident Evil 4, where it can be purchased from the Merchant and then used by Leon.

The Mine Thrower costs 28,000₧ in the initial Gamecube release and 9,800₧ in all ports. A custom scope can be bought for 8,000₧. It is first available in Chapter 3-1. The Mine Thrower takes up 10 spaces (5x2) of Leon's inventory. The scope takes up an additional 4 spaces (2x2).

The weapon fires explosive mine darts that detonate after a short time. The detonating duration of the darts is slightly reduced in the non-Gamecube versions. The darts stick to surfaces and enemies, causing them to stagger slightly before exploding, doing damage equal to a Hand Grenade. The blast from an exploding dart can also make Leon flinch or actually damage him if he is too close when it detonates.

The Mine Thrower was an experimental weapon designed by Umbrella and issued to at least one UBCS operative during the Raccoon City Destruction Incident. The weapon works by launching small dart-shaped proximity mines which can attach to surfaces and explode upon detecting nearby enemies. These darts can also be used to attach to enemies directly, therefore operating somewhat akin to a miniature rocket launcher, albeit with a slight delay between impact and detonation. It has an ammuniton capacity of six rounds, just like a revolver. Ammunition for this weapon is very scarce, and cannot be made, and should be saved for fighting the "the pursuer" or large groups of zombies. The mine thrower will damage Jill if she is too close when the dart explodes. With this in mind the mine thrower is not recommended against fast moving enemies, lest they get in close with Jill and the exploding mine damages them both.

  +
Ammunition for the Mine Thrower will not appear unless Leon has this weapon in his inventory. Mine-Darts are relatively rare and dropped by enemies and crates at random.
The Mine Thrower is first found by Jill Valentine in the St. Michael Clock Tower on the body of a dead UBCS mercenary, albeit only on the Hard difficulty setting. Take note that this weapon cannot be reloaded until it is empty. When it is emptied, it can't be reloaded by pressing the action button in-game, forcing you to go to the menu and combine the ammo with the weapon.

  +
Equipping the scope will replace the Mine Thrower's laser aiming device with said attachment. The scope gives additional zoom to aid shooting.
When upgraded with an Infinite Ammo case, the mine darts gain a powerful seeking ability that will guide it towards the heads of enemies. Additionally, upon impact with an enemy, the dart will explode instantly, then exit target, and seek the next nearest enemy. It will detonate on every single hit, often resulting in a single dart killing everything in range. The darts track their targets very effectively, but may miss if not given enough travel time to change their trajectory. They will detonate permanently upon contact with the environment. It holds 6 round with 24 ammo located in the entire game. It was used by launching on the wall and then it would explode after a certain time.

Its Exclusive upgrade increases the blast radius even further and gives the mine darts heat-seeking capabilities. With this upgrade, aiming at an enemies will cause the dart to home-in at the target. Without any specific target, the dart will seek the nearest enemy instead.

The Mine Thrower fires explosive mine darts that detonate after a short time (the duration is slightly reduced in the non-Gamecube versions). The darts stick to surfaces and enemies, causing them to stagger slightly before exploding, doing damage equal to a Hand Grenade. It costs 28,000₧, and a scope can be attached for 8,000₧. It is first avalabile in Chapter 3-1. The firepower stat of the Mine Thrower actually refers to its explosive blast radius. As with the Mine Thrower in RE3, the blast from an exploding dart can damage Leon if he is too close when it detonates.

Revision as of 21:11, 22 May 2020

For the weapon with the similar name and function in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, see Mine Thrower (RE3).

The Mine Thrower is a unique weapon featured in Resident Evil 4. It is an upgradable weapon.

Gameplay

The Mine Thrower costs 28,000₧ in the initial Gamecube release and 9,800₧ in all ports. A custom scope can be bought for 8,000₧. It is first available in Chapter 3-1. The Mine Thrower takes up 10 spaces (5x2) of Leon's inventory. The scope takes up an additional 4 spaces (2x2).

MineDarts

Ammo for the Mine Thrower, Mine-Darts

The weapon fires explosive mine darts that detonate after a short time. The detonating duration of the darts is slightly reduced in the non-Gamecube versions. The darts stick to surfaces and enemies, causing them to stagger slightly before exploding, doing damage equal to a Hand Grenade. The blast from an exploding dart can also make Leon flinch or actually damage him if he is too close when it detonates.

Ammunition for the Mine Thrower will not appear unless Leon has this weapon in his inventory. Mine-Darts are relatively rare and dropped by enemies and crates at random.

Equipping the scope will replace the Mine Thrower's laser aiming device with said attachment. The scope gives additional zoom to aid shooting.

Its Exclusive upgrade increases the blast radius even further and gives the mine darts heat-seeking capabilities. With this upgrade, aiming at an enemies will cause the dart to home-in at the target. Without any specific target, the dart will seek the nearest enemy instead.

There is a minor glitch in where before the Drill Zealots come you can fire a heat seeking dart through the small upper corner of the wall before they appear in which kills them before the cutscene.

Tune up chart

Firing Speed and Reload Speed are given in seconds. The "Firepower" stat gives the blast radius in terms of meters as noted by its own description in the tune up menu.

"Increase the blast radius of the Mine-Darts. (The default values are in meters.)"

The exclusive upgrade says the radius increases again but does not specify by how much. It takes a total of 211,000₧ to buy and fully upgrade the Mine Thrower, or 219,000₧ for that plus the scope.

Level Firepower Cost Firing Speed Cost Reload Speed Cost Capacity Cost
1 2.0 N/A 1.33 N/A 3.43 N/A 5 N/A
2 4.0 25,000₧ 2.57 18,000₧ 7 25,000₧

Exclusive 6.0 30,000₧ Adds "homing" to the Mine-Darts and significantly increases their blast radius.
