Mitsuru Kuwahata was an artist in the design team behind the original Resident Evil. He was responsible for the design of individual rooms. Kuwahata is known to have suggested "Helix" as the foreign title to BIO HAZARD, in reference to the double-helix shape of DNA. Kuwahata later moved to the Resident Evil 2 project in 1998, where he designed the backgrounds.
