The National Entertainment Collectibles Association or NECA is an American manufacturer of collectibles typically licensed from films, sports, music, and television based in New Jersey. The company was founded in 1996 and has over 60 licenses for which it produces products.
History with the franchise[]
NECA pursued a licensing agreement with Capcom in 2005 with the intention of manufacturing action figures based on Resident Evil 4. This agreement was formally announced on 13 May by both Capcom Entertainment president Hiroshi Tobisawa and NECA president Joel Weinshanker.[1] Prototypes for Series 1 were put on display at Capcom's booth during E3 2005, and hit shelves in October ahead of its initial November estimate.[1][2] This series consisted of Ada Wong, Verdugo and two versions each of Leon S. Kennedy and Chainsaw Ganado, with the "Bloody Chainsaw Ganado" being kept secret as one of NECA's chase variants.[2][3]
When Series 1 reached shelves, Series 2 was also announced with the intention of a May 2006 release, consisting of Garrador, Krauser, two variations of Regenerator, and four variations of "Los Illuminados Monk".[4] An exclusive Leon variant in an RPD uniform was also produced for sale at trade shows, with one presented to Connecticut collector Ryan B. who won a contest to be the first to submit a photograph of the Iron Maiden chaser.[3]
