Paul (ポール pōru?) was a resident of Gadiwell. A childhood friend of Rain Rubens, he lived by himself in a small shack near the docks supported by aid from Rain's uncle Bale.[1]

Biography

A young native to Gadiwell Island in the North Sea around 20 years of age, Paul was noted for his unkempt blond hair and his large staring eyes. He typically wore a worn-out cotton jacket and shabby pants with a loose belt hanging from the waist. Rain described him as “a weak-minded cry-baby, but a very kind kid”. As a baby both his parents died (possibly due to a T-virus outbreak that happened around that time) leaving him orphaned. An old fisherman living by himself near the docks took pity on the poor boy and let him live with him until he passed away when Paul was 12. After that Paul continued to live in the fisherman's shack being mostly ignored by the other inhabitants of the island and getting work whenever the ferry to the mainland came around. The only people who didn't ignore him and regularly interacted with him were his childhood friend Rain and her uncle Bale the latter of which had been quite fond of the boy since he was small and occasionally helped support him. After Rain left for college the Umbrella corporation with the support of the Beardsley family reactivated their T-virus research on the island and began abducting locals to experiment on which resulted in the creation of new zombies and B.O.W's who eventually escaped. To cover this outbreak up the company hired some mercenaries who disguised as a film crew began to kill off the escapees along with any witnesses, whereupon Paul began carrying a Colt .25 auto pistol for defense. When Rain returned to the Island, Paul nervously watched her return from the shadows and noted her college roommate Kate, but quickly fled when he realized her new acquaintance the intimidating former special forces soldier Norse Chirac had caught on to the fact he was being watched. Working up his courage Paul later approached the three and warned them that they should lock their doors and windows tonight and then leave the island come daybreak but before the three could question him further Paul ran off. Later when Kate went missing during Norse and Rain's first run in with zombies the pair went back to town to try and get help but failed due to Umbrella's influence on the island's inhabitants. Shortly thereafter the dejected duo stumbled across Paul who angrily told them they should have headed his warning and left the island already. They then told him they were worried about Bale who had been on the run from the Umbrella mercenaries, and Paul promised he'd get the message to him and that he and Bale would meet the duo at 6 o’clock the following morning at the ruins of the old lighthouse. Good to his word Paul found Bale in the woods and told them about the duo, the planned meeting, and the fact Kate had gone missing. Bale then went out searching for Kate but only was able to find one of her blue sneakers near the door to the supposedly abandoned Umbrella facility which told him all he needed to know. Linking back up with Paul the two men headed to the meetup spot only for Bale to be shot by a sniper employed by Umbrella. Enraged at his friend's injury Paul ran out into the fog and tried to locate the shooter but was shot himself and tumbled headlong over the nearby cliff to his death in the ocean below.
