Popokarimu was a genetically modified bat-based B.O.W. produced by TRICELL created by infecting bats with the Las Plagas parasite.[excerpt 1]
History[]
The Popokarimu was a prototype BOW originally intended to be sold as part of weapons deal to an unknown party in Africa by arms dealer Ricardo Irving. After finding out from a Tricell spy planted in the BSAA that the organization was onto the deal, Irving moved the deal location to the mines near Kijuju and arranged to have the Uroboros Test Subject left at the original deal location to ambush any BSAA agents that showed up. However while the test subject successfully killed Dan DeChant's BSAA team it failed to kill agents Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar who subsequently were able to recover data which lead them to the deal's new location. Learning of their survival Irving ordered the prototype B.O.W released from a container truck in an attempt to stop his pursuers. However, despite its best efforts the creature was shot out of the sky by Chris and crashed on top of the truck which then promptly fell off a cliff with the creature and exploded. Another such creature (or possibly the same one from earlier) later accosted the agents again when they went to investigate Tricell's facility in the ancient Ndipaya ruins, with the creature having entered the underground ruins via a hole in the cave's ceiling. After a fierce battle the creature then attempted to chase after the pair but was subsequently crushed to death when part of the ruins collapsed on it, finally finishing it off for good.
“A B.O.W. that has been improved by parasitizing Las Plagas on bats to achieve the target destructive abilities associated with large size and high flight ability. Coexistence with the parasites enables complex genetic modifications, and the number of wings that also double as legs when walking has increased to four. Although the weak Plaga emerging from the tail is exposed to damage, the front side of the creature is covered in a hard armor that keeps bullets away, as seen in the type 2 strain of the Magini parasitic variant, and from the mucous membrane on the back side where, the spider-silk-like substance that seals the movement of the prey is secreted.”
