PopocarimRE5

Popokarimu from RE5

Popokarimu is a bat-based B.O.W. produced by the TriCell Pharmaceutical Company. Popokarimu is a boss fought in Resident Evil 5. It resembles a large mutated-overgrown Bat with an insect's thorax as a tail with several legs attached to the tail. This is probably the result of gene splicing done on a bat used in conjunction with Progenitor virus by TriCell. Its entire body is extremely resilient, only the fleshy underside of its tail is vulnerable to the player's attacks.

Attacks

Standing upright, it resembles that of a scorpion, its shell protecting it from gunfire. Likewise, it attacks as such. Along with a charge attack, Popokarimu has a body slam as well as the ability to take flight. While in the air, attacks are virtually useless unless one attacks its vulnerable tail.

Appearance

Popokarimu appears twice throughout Resident Evil 5, once in the Mining Area, and another in the Caves. In the Mining Area, a cutscene of a Majini driving a steel-plated truck is shown. The truck crashes, blocking the path to continue, and Popokarimu jumps out of the vehicle. In the Caves, the Popokarimu flies down from an opening in the ceiling of the statue room. With the latter, accompanies a button mashing sequence.

Strategies

When Popokarimu is on the ground chasing the players, use proximity mines to stun it. While it recovers, have both Chris and Sheva attack the fleshy underside of it's tail. Repeat until defeated, and take note that it may fly up into the air, rendering the proximity mines useless until it has returned to the ground.

If attempting to keep away from the Popokarimu in the Mining area, don't resort to using the little sheds containing items for cover. A single swipe is enough to cause the sheds to collapse. When dealing with the Popokarimu in the Caves, dodge its attacks and run up the stairs. Before long, the button mashing sequence will appear, requiring you to run away.

Trivia

  • It took Capcom three weeks to come up with the design and a month to further create an in-game version.
  • It will apparently be of a similar difficulty to the Yawn.
