Effects

This virus increases the metabolism of its hosts, giving them incredible strength, speed and regenerative abilities. The only known host of the virus is Albert Wesker, so most knowledge of its effects comes from observations of him.

The virus' effects limits itself to muscle tissue and the lower organs, leaving the brain relatively intact. This breakthrough means that the subject's mind is retained and no ill effects take place. However, the only known test-subject (Wesker) is a known sociopath with many crimes add to his name including, but not necessarily the full list:

• Police corruption
• 1st degree murder
• 2nd degree murder
• attempted murder
• manslaughter
• involuntary manslaughter
• potentially hundreds of counts of corporate manslaughter
• violation of international law under the Biological Weapons Prohibition Pact.
• conspiracy to commit genocide
• bribery
• blackmail
• various firearms offences.

While he was clearly a naturally power-hungry, amoral individual, whether or not the virus made Wesker more prone to sociopathic behaviour is ambiguous.

The virus has a unique effect on ocular tissue. The only visible effect of the virus is the way in which it affects the subject's eyes (the pupils become slitted and cat-like, and the irises turn a brilliant yellow or red colour). Wesker demonstrates the ability to move faster than the human eye can see, at least in short bursts. The only way to move accurately at such extreme speeds would be by viewing the world in hundreds of frames per second, most likely in the same range as birds. However, he is also capable of interaction with the world with the 'normal' speed of a human, viewing the world in the tens of frames per second. This would indicate that the subject has voluntary control over visual perception, or else his eyes automatically adjust to the speed at which he is moving.

The virus is very unstable, so the host has to use a special serum to keep it under control. The serum itself must be given in very precise dosages, lest it act like more of a poison and weaken the virus user rather than strengthening their abilities while keeping the virus in check.

It is commonly referred to as the "Wesker virus or W-virus".

Origin

Some sources describe the virus as having been created by Dr. William Birkin for the use of Albert Wesker for him to fake his death in 1998. Its origin remains unknown, though is likely of Progenitor descent, though whether Tyrant, Gene or another strain of the virus remains unknown mostly.

The colour is similar to that of G-virus, and created by the same researcher. Were it to be "G", it would have to be a relatively primitive strain, similar to what flowed through Lisa Trevor's veins, which did not show random mutations like Birkin. Wesker's ability to recover from injuries unnaturally fast support this as well.

Other sources describe it as being a T-virus strain. Strains that don't create zombies have been created before.

Spencer's conversation with Wesker over Wesker's origin in Resident Evil 5 brought up the possibility of it being the initial strain of the Progenitor virus, though with only one person in every ten million surviving "P" or becoming a Tyrant though "t", a 90% survival rate is not possible with "P" nor the original "t" strain, as people who can co-habit with the viruses are of a very rare genetic trait. Further, Progenitor would not require constant injections as it is not unstable, Lisa Trevor for instance, did not suffer negative effects from further injections.
