Punisher is a weapon in Resident Evil 4.

Gameplay[]

The Punisher, similar to its original counterpart, is a pistol capable of penetrating multiple enemies with a single shot, making it useful when funneling multiple enemies into single file lines (such as on stairs, in doorways or similar tight spaces). This weapon is obtained from the Merchant in exchange for five Spinels. The handgun takes up six inventory spaces.

When not upgraded, the pistol itself is relatively weak, therefore its ability to damage multiple enemies with a single shot is off-set by its relatively low damage per shot.

The penetration does allow a player to shoot through a shielded or armored enemy and set them up for melee attacks without first breaking the shield.

The Punisher shares a similar appearance with its original counterpart with some minor differences, cosmetically the frame of the handgun is tan in colour with a Black slide as opposed to the original's all black frame colour scheme.

The most notable difference (shared with all handguns in the remake) is the lack of a laser sight upon its acquisition, however, a Laser sight can be added as an optional upgrade available from the Merchant for the cost of 10x spinels.

The Punisher is the second handgun available to the player (not including pre-order or deluxe edition bonuses), available from chapter 2 onwards for the cost of 5x Spinels, and when fully upgraded it outclasses the SG-09 R in all stats except firepower (fully upgraded the Punisher has a firepower of 1.90 compared to the SG-09 R's firepower of 2.0), The punisher has 24 shots per Magazine (compared to the SG-09R's 18), a reload speed of 1.50 (compared to the SG-09 R's 1.40), a rate of fire of 1.91 (compared to the SG-09 R's 1.52) and a precision rating of 4.50 (compared to the SG-09 R's 4.0).

Another major advantage the gun has is that it is extremely accurate, only (barely) bested by the Red9 with Stock, but unlike the Red9 The Punisher does accommodate the Laser Sight and it takes up far less room in the inventory. Despite also having similar precision ratings, the firing reticule with the Punisher is also significantly smaller than the Red 9 with stock, especially after shooting. Rapid fire shooting is pinpoint accurate with this gun

Despite all round higher stats, the exclusive perk for the SG-09 R (allowing for 5x crit rate) may prove to be more beneficial to the player as opposed to the penetration bonus the Punisher offers.
