The Raccoon City Police Department, commonly abbreviated as "R.P.D.", was a municipal law enforcement agency which served Raccoon City. It also had a special forces branch known as the Special Tactics and Rescue Service (S.T.A.R.S). This agency set up headquarters in the landmark Raccoon Police Station.

History

During the city's boom years between the 1970s and 1990s, the RPD expanded significantly to meet the needs of a growing city, including the formation of a special forces team and the inclusion of helicopters in its force. Following the relocation of Umbrella's corporate offices to Tall Oaks in early 1998, the city population collapsed and the RPD was met with significant budget cuts.
