The Zoo

Raccoon Zoo was a tourist attraction in the midwestern community of Raccoon City, located not far from the center of the city.

History

The zoo was opened as early as 1978, with an annual parade involving elaborately-dressed elephants conducted until 1983.

In June 1998, journalist Alyssa Ashcroft discovered that the zoo's chairman, Elliot Martin, had aqcuired an orchid exibit. Being illegal to trade and very expensive, it was left unknown as to how Martin managed to afford such an attraction.

"Max", the resident lion, was joined by three lionesses on loan to the zoo to assist in the lion-breeding program, with the three scheduled to be returned to their respective zoos in October.

During the Raccoon City outbreak, evacuation helicopters passed over the zoo every few hours to help survivors in the area, choosing the zoo as an evac point due to its location being known throughout.

By the time the survivors entered the zoo, it had been emptied of all non-infected apart from two or three zoo employees.

At Christmas time every year, they would hold a parade of trained animals. Oscar, or "Titan", who was the zoo's bull elephant and the star who lead this parade while dressed in holiday garb, has become the zoo's main source of danger and can deliver a fatal blow.

The zoo houses at least two alligators. You will encounter this creature while swimming through the overflowing alligator exhibit. It is easy to spot as it slinks along the surface, but it can follow you onto land and is very quick and dangerous in both areas.

The Lion and lioness only attack you if you have killed/enclosed Oscar.
