(Capcom's primary storyline)
The Realm of Consciousness is the term given to the dreamlike sensation experienced by Mold-imitation humans when in direct contact with a Fungal Root.
Description[]
Within a Mold supercolony, the purpose of the Fungal Root is to store DNA and minds of assimilated from the environment around it. Over time the individuality of these conscious minds fades away, though in theory careful manipulation of a Fungal Root can re-integrate an archived consciousness and implant it within a physical host body. When a human is in contact with this Fungal Root, a mental connection will be established allowing them to communicate with it in the form of a lucid dream.
The first recorded experience of the Realm took place in 1919 when Miranda made contact with the Black God; upon touching it she saw flashes of countless lives over centuries of time. It was this experience that convinced her to engage in Mold research as part of an effort to create a clone of her deceased daughter, Eva, who would retain the conscious mind of the original. In 2017, Ethan Winters was briefly connected with the fungal root in Dulvey Parish, Louisiana, and talked with the archived mind of Jack Baker in an environment similar to Baker's house. In 2037 Rosemary Winters also made contact with the Black God, and experienced a warped landscape made-up of memories of Eastern Europe, a manifestation of Mother Miranda in which dissipated with Miranda's final erasure.
